HELLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, this is no laughing matter :butt:

Ive had, in the past, a 2.3 LWB, 2.0i Sport S, a 2.5 TD Transglobe LWB. So 3 fronties. Actually 4 but i never got the other one running

However, after an eventful couple of years im a couple of weeks away from buying another one. But here's the problem.

Which one?

Im genuinely having bad dreams and stuff......you get the picture.

So here is my criteria:

Daily driver, used to travel to work and back, so gets a decent 40 mile run on motorway each day.

Will pull a small ish 1200 kgs caravan once a month roughly 80 miles.

There is only me and my son, so dont need a LWB, but should i?

Which engine/model? Seen a load of sports, A and B series. Petrol or diesel? My old 2.0i Sport S pulled a heavier caravan and didnt falter with 4 of us in it, easy to fix by myself. Diesel makes sense fuel wise, but is it false economy with price of fuel now against petrol and cost of parts if things go bang? 8)

Keep looking at the B series 2.2 petrol Sport RS, few about, nice machine and i like em :D

But what do i do, oil or petrol, LWB or SWB, A or B?

HEELLLLPPPPPPPPP..................... :?

Forgot to say i'll have around £1200 quid to spend.

The SWB will easily pull 1200kg. I guess it depends if you really need the extra room. There are plenty of 2.0 Sports on ebay and in the classifieds, so they're probably the easiest and cheapest to buy. Diesels are obviously better on fuel, so will be cheaper to run. I personally would avoid the 2.2. They're far too fragile. Ultimately, it goes down to personal choice, as I'm sure everyone has their own preferences.

I have a 2.0 Sport, and a 2.5 TDS LWB (for now). Both have their advantages. If I had the choice, my Sport would have a 2.8 TDi engine, but...we can't have everything in life.

With a commute like that and a van, I would recommend a DTI and some coil assistors
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Towing-Coil-Spr ... B0040R4WU8
Not that the coils are weak but they will help.

The B series As your mileage will require a degree of comfort and your engine will need torque and reliability under pressure I suggest the DTI

I would say 2.2 dti lwb but thats me...
They are pretty good on fuel, comfortable over long journeys and once the vac pipes have been replaced and the egr valve cleaned they make for a reliable motor....
Hope this helps......... :axe: :axe:

I would do with the LWB DTI as mine has done everything i've asked from towing a small trailer to filling up the spacious boot for going on holiday. It's also comfortable on longer journeys. Yes there is the costly fuel pump to worry about but generally as long as you don't starve it of diesel you should be ok.

Ok, just summizing i opted for a 2.2 DTi, i would go for a sport if possible. Dont need the size of the LWB and to be honest, the sport is plenty big enough.

Now then whats the AUTO box like on these?

If serviced regularly, the autobox is perfectly alright. Had 2.2dTi auto and it was running great.

I have the 2.2 dti sport and have (touch wood) never had any problems with it...well except for the dodgy dashboard  it runs great, really economical and tows well too. There is loads of room in the back for it being a 3 door (except when trying to get out  ) I'm scared to go and read the stories now incase it starts developing faults
