Nissan Almera handbrake question..

Postby jontera on Wed Mar 16, 2011 1:57 pm

Hi all, another non-fronty question..but we all know what it's like, get seen fixing the truck and the wifes fit mate asks you do do a little job for her..

right before i get into anymore trouble..Car passed it's MOT, but got an advisory for all four brake pads..so being a gent (haha, i can hear you all laughing) I've fitted front and rear pads.

Fronts are a fairly straight forward job..rears a little more fiddly, the piston has to be wound back on a thread and the whole lot is the foot & handbrake assembly. now my question is..I'm assuming that they are self adjusting when the h/brake is applied and will tighten it's self up soon? At the moment it's about 9clicks on the handle, where as it was about 4 or 5 with the worn pads. I'm assuming that they work on some kind of ratchet system that winds the piston back out under application..I can't see any exterior adjuster, and winding the piston out abit makes fitting the caliper back on impossible.

really what I'm after is some reasurance that i've got right..Both work fine on the foot brake, and it will hold on the handbrake..it's just quite alot of clicks..did follow some directions from a nissan forum, but I don't trust some of them "boy" racer sites..(forgotten which one now)

wifey's mate says they work fine and are 100% better than before...maybe it's just me thinking too much about the handbrake...oh it's an 06 1500petrol if that makes any difference..

any thoughts..

No idea about Nissan, but my Vectra C has the same set up by the sound of it, piston winds back and the handbrake cable comes in at the top of the calliper. Mine was slack for a few days then tightened up by itself evenutally - you only notice when you stop to think about it, it's not an obvious change.

yeah, it was just something i was thinking about earlier. had a little google search and apart from adjusting the cable as it stretches, and it seems that all is ok.

I'll ask the wifes mate over the weekend if it's tightened up..
