Freakin' useless windscreen companies!

Postby Paul A on Fri Mar 11, 2011 6:14 pm

Hi all,
Couple of days after I got my Vehicross (December) some brainless muppet threw a snowball at it and cracked the windscreen.
Went through insurance and the job went to "auto windscreens".
I had all kinds of nightmares with them ,and actually found out that none of the Isuzu dealers would touch them with a barge pole - hence them being unable to get the screen.
Then Auto windscreens went down the tubes.........
Cut a long story short, the job went to "Autoglass".
Had an appointment on the 24th of FEB at Autoglass in Luton.
When I arrived I was told a complete fairy story about they wouldn't be able to fit the screen as the one they had in stock had been "Damaged in the warehouse" and they would have to order another.
Several weeks have gone past now, I've phoned and had all kinds of garbage about "we think a trooper screen might fit" and other assorted claptrap (I'd already given them the CORRECT part number verified by Isuzu U.K. on the 24th)
Finally lost it yesterday and went down to Luton to face them up.
I was promised all kinds of chasing up etc etc.
This morning I got a call saying they had chased it up and they could confirm the screen was ordered on the 24th Feb.
Unfortunately it might take 4 - 6 weeks to arrive.....
I decided to ring Isuzu U.K. and see if they were telling the truth.
Isuzu U.K. were extremely helpful and confirmed a screen was on order........since YESTERDAY!!!
I thought "Auto Windscreens (RIP)" were bad...... seems "Autoglass" are no better...
Might just take this one to trading standards.......

Rant mode off.........

Out of interest, would the insurance company be willing to cough up for Isuzu to supply and fit the screen?
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered ;) )

Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... 'O-no' the truck.

Owning a 2.8 is a hobby in it's self...

Now thats a thought.......
I really hadn't considered that, I wouldn't think it would be any more expensive for Isuzu to fit... maybe even cheaper!
I'll give that a shot as I have a major Isuzu dealer only 5 or 6 miles away.... Thanks!

Windscreen fitting is a specialist job, I can't see a dealer having an on site fitter. They usually sub this work out. On saying all of that they may well use a local guy who may be more reliable than Autoglass
