It was ratcav who suggested running on shell diesel as he found it improved his fronteras mpg. I thought I would try it to see as its the same price as tescos. There is an improvement. Tesco diesel I used to get 150 miles from 25 litres. Shell diesel I am geting 180 miles from 25 litres of fuel. Even allowing for me getting it wrong and allowing 160 miles to 25 litres its still an improvement. I have yet to work out whether we'll lose out in the long run without saving Tesco points on the clubcard. Thanks ratcav

Interesting reading drift,my father in law tries hard not to buy supermarket diesel as hes convinced its not as good as petrol station fuel. The shell petrol station is close to me and Tescos so it could be they keep the price the same this makes it easy for me. I forgot to say that its Regular Diesel I've been buying not the V Power which I put in twice without realising and its a lot more expensive. Wondered why that pump was always free So the 2.5 is doing 32mpg on Shell.

I tend to use mainstream stations too... Any one here use MURCO garages...I never feel inspired to use their fuel, must be the name!

Cheers for the mention buddy. I have to admit I probably wouldn't of noticed anything unless I was doing the miles I do a month. The Shell garage I use is £1.32 at the moment for diesel (probably will go up) but is almost matching the Tesco's supermarket just down the road. Also its on the route to work. I also did my calculations after a couple of months using just Shell to get a good reading and letting all the detergents clean the engine. I will add that the V-Power Diesel isn't as good as they say. No noticable performance and less economy from first impressions. I would even say its worse performance than the normal stuff in my 20 year old engine (and my 2.3 Frontera for that fact) but I do put half a tank in now and again as it seems to clear out the system a bit (expect a gout of black smoke when you floor it). Tesco's now seem to have their own brand "Momentum" but I dunno if its just a re-badged variant. Glad its of use to people. p.s. I drive a Trooper

I have been using Shell Diesel regularly for the last year and half, and can say that I've had no problems at all with their fuel, and get no black smoke out the back I put some in the tank this morning and the price is exactly the same as the Sainsbury garage. I don't use the supermarket stuff myself as I'm convinced the stuff is not of the same quality [raw] - [remember when all those people got their cats wrecked] ! ! !I feel a bit embarrassed about this next bit, I even have a shell loyalty card
