I couldn't believe this story a new type of hydrogen fuel at 90 pence a gallon. Should be ready to sell in 3 years time, so we can now all keep our Frontys - New Cheap Fuel .......

This would be great, until the petroleum firms get hold of it and force the price and their profits up, and the government put their taxes on it.

Yup, the government would heavily tax it as soon as cars started to use it.
Just like when diesel was less than half the cost of petrol, until manufacturers started to build family cars with diesel engines.
Now as we all know, diesel is dearer and it costs a lot less to produce.

If it's Taxable, the Government will tax it. They have a proven track record in this department.

I remember reading about a fella that's doing interesting things with algae. It took him several years of painstaking research on the fringes of the scientific community, being called things like 'renegade' and 'dangerous' before he produced enough verifiable data to be taken seriously. Certain species can be refined into biodiesel producing much higher yields than the likes of rape seed oil. It's theoretically possible to set up 'farms' anywhere there is water and grow unlimited amounts of the stuff with the added benefit of it absorbing massive amounts of CO2.

I very much doubt that it will ever reach our petrol stations, as the fuel company will buy all rights to it

I dont think it will matter what or where the fuel come's from the price and amount of miles per gallon are both set by government tax and the oil companies.

15 years ago I worked as a test driver for a well known oil company, we had a fleet of 6 diesel cars, 3 of which were fuelled from forecourt pumps and the other 3 fuel from drum's all cars were driven over a 410 mile road course per shift.

The cars fuelled from the forecourt would return between 40 to 50 mpg pretty much what you would expect, the cars fuelled from the drums which was diesel with additives would return around 90 mpg, and this was 15 years ago when the cars were not as efficient as modern diesels.
All the cars were 1.8 litre turbo diesel saloons and estates.

Where is the incentive for the fuel companies to market and sell these fuels at the end of the day they would sell half the fuel
and could probably only justify a small increase in the cost at the pumps.
