Workday at the Woods..Sunday 30th Jan 2011

Postby gregster on Fri Jan 14, 2011 2:10 am

Hi foggers

Please be advised that on Sunday 30th January 2011 we will doing a Workday at the Woods...

We will meet at 9am at Notcutts garden centre just off j7 m20 (head towards maidstone from j7 and its immediately on your left...)
(the meet point may be changed to the woods, if everyone attending has been before and knows where they are going...I will advise)

Please bring with you any tools that you have that may be useful for clearing trees, digging and lunch/drinks as nowhere very near to get grub when you have worked up an appetite.

Dont worry if you cant bring your fronty, we find somewhere to park the lesser cars if not 4x4's so you can still join in if you want to.

Probably not a good idea to bring dogs to the work days, I am just concerned about them running around with chainsaws going and 4x4's moving around,
and children must be kept on a tight leash and near parents at all times as we dont want any accidents.

Workdays will not be capped at the moment as loads to do, and we will be grafting as a team to get work done...this will involve some delegation of tasks within the team to ensure we are both productive and safe...
Use of chainsaws will be restricted to logging or pruning areas as instructed...I dont want to risk accidents with inexperienced members felling trees and anything we cut has to be considered so as to retain the character of the woods and to represent best productivity.
This is gonna be hard graft, I can be a bit of a slave driver  , and for maximum productivity please only add your name if you are available for the full day...

Please note this is NOT a playday, and although some 4x4 driving/working will probably be involved during the day, we are there to work to get the site ready for the next meet...

Anyone "outworked" by Sally will be on toilet emptying duty at the next weekender!!!!

Your safety is paramount, I must insist that anyone attending ensures that they stay a safe distance from any felling or chainsaw operations or moving vehicles...
Falling debris can be unpredictable in its direction or distance of fall, so please be very careful...

Please add your name to the list if you are coming to help with this, and thanks for your support guys...we are really getting there with the site now!!!

See you soon

Postby gregster on Sun Jan 30, 2011 9:13 pm

Thanks everyone who came today to help....this our first gathering up the woods this year... 8) 8) 8)

Was great to see everyone again, it seems like ages since we were all last up there...

Got loads done today...cleared loads of fallen branches and trees, track access improved all over to be kinder to lwb trucks...

Arms are killing me now, too much waving chainsaws around today...had the beast out, and it did well... 8)

Todays crew were...(in order of appearance!)

Paul Mapracing...in his pikey wagon today...a grafter as always, even though he would have us tarmacing the tracks if we let him get his own way! Paul had germs today, so we are putting his lack of self belief in his driving down to that... :butt:  In fairness, some great improvements were suggested and implemented by Paul though...

Tom, Steph and Tazzman....good to see y'all again, thanks for bringing the windscreens down and your help today...gotta say Steph is a proper grafter!
Tom got stuck up the far end of the woods in his 2.2i A series Lwb on a/t's...he clearly didnt listen propely or pay attention when I painstakingly demonstrated to him the "brain in glovebox" technique last year...some people eh...theres no helping em...
Unstucked by Kel and Fudge I believe...Hope ya chainsaw cuts better now, dont forget to file about 1mm of the bits in between the teeth with a flat file...

Krusher...Great to see Kel at a workday again...he has skived too many! Cheers for the help fella, and like the boost gauge, but not the flappy C post! Hope you got home ok with no clicky sounds from the front...Thanks for safely moving the screens up the workshop, and soz about the muddy bonnet!
Thankfully no shorts on the Krusher today...due to the weather being freeeeezing...Kels gas stove did tea duties today, cheers mate

DavetheRave...Came up for a short while with his mate to collect some bits for his 2.5tds from Tom...Good to see ya fella, and best of luck with the operation this week, heres hoping it all goes ok...Came on the "assesment wander" round the woods with us to begin with, even though some cruel sod nearly guided dave with his mono-vision into a hooj muddy water filled hole!

Retropedro...Well a workday wouldnt be a workday without our Pete...Winch bumper is looking good mate (albiet a bit "straight" compared with the rest of the panels!)...Pete grafted away as always, and got stuck carrying the beasty chainsaw when I swapped over to a more sensible size one when my arms started to feel like they were falling off!...Cheers for the shackles mate...

Fudge...Cheers for you help today fella...sorry for felling branches onto you, it all part of our "initiation" to the grafting gang up the woods!...Got stuck in the swb due to A/t's...but got unstucked by Pete...was funny though...you need to get the "magnatraction tyres" on mate...

Sally...Was suffering from germs today, but gave it a go as someone advised that "fresh air would do you good"... Sally grafted all day as always, and was the brains in the Gregster/Gregsters Boss team, Sally seems to always come up with the sensible suggestion to counter and rationalise my less sensible ideas...Great effort though, will expect better next time though as, if she can work like that full of germs, then she can do the lot on her own next time when healthy...and us lads can kill a few tinnies and just watch!

And me...Spent most of the day chopping stuff that everyone else picked up and sorted...I just wish I had someone to clear up after me at home like this!
A great day though, was good to get back down the woods for some grafting with a great bunch of friends...and we got loads done to...
The woods are starting to come back to life, buds forming on dead looking trees, life appearing on the floor of the woods...It wont be long and the woods will be a lush green again...and not so bleedin cold!

Thanks everyone for your help...and see you all in a fortnight to enjoy the fruits of our toiling today!

Laters

Greg

It was good to get in the woods again and get some clearing and tidying done. Will be a good picnic on the 13th Feb and surprising to
see there is a fair amount of the gooey stuff still there with the odd water trap aswell.

Managed to get both rear door handles replaced today aswell whilst on a tea break with the help of Tazman, cheers mate...
