What a start to new year

well i got my fronty b new years eve and i knew there were a couple of problems them being speedo not working and it need rear brakes doing.

Took it in to get rear brakes done this morning only to have them ring and say not only are the rear pads just bare metal the discs are shot and the calipers are both knackered aswell

so thats just set me back £550 cos i needed motor back today just got them to go all over while they waiting for the parts to turn up and heres what they told me needs doing

small oil leak from sump
speedo and temp gauge not working
blue side light blubs
number plate light not working
manifold is cracked
so not having a good day i knew it needed some work but not that much but spose i got to look on bright side when its all done it be sorted just more bloody expense i hadnt accounted for

Woohooooeee thats a lot for the brakes, refurb calipers should be around £60 to £70 each and the discs and pads about £70 tops for the whole rear set, they are charging a lot labour, did they say what was wrong with the calipers?

The bulbs are easy and pennies to sort and the sump bolts very likely need nipping up, mine did and perfect 3 years later.

I take it its the 2.2 petrol? not many of them without the cracked manifold problem, they can be welded up but tend to go again, once the manifold heats up they crack tends to close on most and you dont notice it so many live with it.

yes mate its the 2.2 all the parts are brand new i no it cost a bit but need the car back asap so didnt really have the time to scout about for bits but least it done the manifold has already been welded is it worth getting a replacement then or not?

£550 ? Wasn't Kwik fit was it ?

As Steve has said refurbing them would have been way cheaper, but some garages have the 'replace don't repair' culture and that's when it get's expensive.

I don't want to put you off but it is unlikely that this is the last visit your Fronty will make to a garage so I would try and find someone a little more into repairs rather than just replace or if you are so inclined get yourself a set of spanners

Oh, and always ask for the old parts back. I've heard of a few occasions where garages have suddenly found a way to repair a part when the customer asks for his old bits back

How bad is the manifold? it very likely makes a ticking sound at start up then quietens down? if fuel consumption and performance are not affected it will be fine until you recover from the brakes ££ and get a few bob together

i take it the manifold on Betsy is different as its lying in the back seat

cheers guys there is a tick type sound on start up and tick over and it dose go quiet but when you accelrate it can be herd as for brakes the passenger side is in bits it was cracked and when removed fell apart and drivers side was seized solid i have asked to see the parts and bloke said no problem and they should be in the boot when i pick the car up later i dont mind getting my hands dirty and having ago myself but to be honest i never really done it before so would need a little help but everyone gota start somewhere i spose i should have known getting it cheap there would be more under lieing problems but will defo try and scout about for repairs next time unless some one on here is localish and wants to earn a few quid wont be right now gota wait till i paid credit card off for the brakes cheers again

Drift what's this about blue side light bulbs I've got them and my truck passed the MOT OK.

Depends on the MOT guy or the Police as they dont like blue bulbs
