Laning day during Christmas break in Southern Hemisphere

Postby Retro Pedro on Fri Dec 24, 2010 10:00 pm

Anybody fancy a last minute laning day some time next week in the southern hemisphere part of the country.
Personally I have only done a couple of lanes in Kent so would have to be a bit trial and error for finding lanes to drive. Maybe if anybody as got known info of somewhere we could go to take the trial and error out of th equation we could venture further afield, perhaps over the Thames or go west towards Surrey/Hants area.
Appreciate it's very last minute but would be good to have a meet up and a drive whilst we've got a break from work.
Nothing decided on what day but as a start off suggestion how about Thursday 30th. If that day is not doable by anybody wishing to join then that date can be changed by popular demand.

I'm in subject to checking my turbo tomorrow
Had a mass lack of power and speed when I went out earlier today and it feels like it wasn't working

Any day is good for me at the moment.
I have MM loaded on my phone and will also bring the lappy too.

Can sort out a route around Maidstone, Tonbridge, Dartford if that's the sort of area people want to do, otherwise I can have a look further afield. Personally I fancy doing the Cinque Ports golf course byway (just to upset all the golfers  ) in Sandwich but that might be a bit to far to go

Sounds brill Paul, would be good to have some sound navigation device on board. I'll bring my laptop with O.S. 1:50,000 South East loaded on it but no GPS attached.
So shall we say Thursday 30th as the day and aim for 9-9.30 a.m. meet time at Notcutts J7 M20. I'll P.M. everybody on the final list on Wednesday evening with my mobile number etc
Guess we could start in the east of Maidstone areas and make our way down to Sandwich but happy to go with the flow to do whatever peeps want to have a good day out.
Please add your name to the list.
Retro Pedro

P.S. Paul - reckon you'll be OK with the earlier crossing time but I went up to Southend yesterday and what should have been a 1 hour journey took nearly 3 hours due to all the peeps going to Blue Water and Lakeside sales. We left T.W. just after 12 and got to Southend a tad past 3p.m.

I've put together a route around the M20/M26 interchange which is about 35miles total and should take about 4 hours to complete. It starts near M20 J4 so could we meet up there in the Premier Inn / Castle Lake pub? ([linkurl=http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=ME19+5TR&sll=51.307009,0.426021&sspn=0.006291,0.021136&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=West+Malling+ME19+5TR,+United+Kingdom&ll=51.306848,0.424283&spn=0.006238,0.021136&z=16]Google map link to ME19 5TR[/linkurl])
If we need somewhere else more central I'll see if I can do another route, but this area had the closest concentration of different lanes to our normal haunt

I think it should be pointed out that as this will be a suck it and see day, nice shiny trucks beware, you will probably get tree scratches :axe: and muddy as we have no idea on the lane conditions.
No permits are required for any of the planned lanes

Think it's the one before (or after depending which way your travelling) It's the A228 turning. Rochester, West Malling, & New Hythe

Personally I haven't got a scooby how to do the radio thing, but if you can bring a SWR meter I'm sure between us we can sort it.
I can bring a spare with a mag mount aerial (just needs a microphone) as it plugs into the lighter socket if needed

well i will get one today then.

and hopefully i will have finished doing the wiring i started yesterday for it.

and i think i will get stuck as well. i only have ATs on as well, but i could put the dumper tyres and wheels on  but it would then suck on the road, max of 30mph :oh yer:

Leave the AT's on. Dumpers are best left for pay and play.
I don't for see any major problems unless we're silly. There will be enough of us with extraction experience to sort out any stucks should the happen

well i have one on the spair wheel and one in the boot at the mo (the dumpers) and prob will leave it like that. so if we get really stuck some where we can get out

i had a look for a swr meter today but coundnt find some where that had one :(

i will finish wireing up my radio tomorrow morning(30 min job)

but it looks like i will be bk tonight(leaving in a few hours) so unless there is loads of trafic on the roads and get back stupidly late i should be there tomorrow

Right then guys - meet 9-9.30a.m. J4 M20 as link entered by Paul
I know most of you have got my mobile but I'll send you all a p.m. with the number to be doubly sure.
Steve - did you get my phone message? If MOT went horribly wrong and you do want to come out for the day, let me know tonight and I'll come up and get you before the 9ish meet.

See you all tomorrow morning.
