Re: 42-litre Packard-engined Bentley 1.500BHPKind of ups the ante on John Dodd's 27 litre Merlin Rolls Royce Beast of the early seventies.
Though the Beast was road legal. "The exact origins of the Merlin engine in "the Beast", as the car was lovingly called, are unknown. It is unlikely that this engine ever powered anything more charismatic than a tank. The engine delivered an estimated 750bhp at 2500 rpm and redlined at 2800, but you don't even want to think about the torque. At tickover, this wonderfully balanced engine was doing 120 RPM (yes, that's one hundred and twenty !)" If you need something done quickly just ask a busy woman then get the f"k out of her way.
Re: 42-litre Packard-engined Bentley 1.500BHPamazing bit of engineering, god knows what the fuel economy is!

Re: 42-litre Packard-engined Bentley 1.500BHPTrouble with John Dodd's car is that it doesn't look as good or, sadly, sound as good cos the supercharger makes such a racket you can't hear that glorious engine.
And then of course there's the Y2K motorbike which has a gas turbine from a helicopter in it Don't grow up, just get bigger toys

Re: 42-litre Packard-engined Bentley 1.500BHPYer the car didnt have fantastic acceleration but it would just keep going to warp speed IF it had the space

Re: 42-litre Packard-engined Bentley 1.500BHPAt the end of the ww2, you could buy MTB's for £12...sadly most were burnt on canvey island mud flats because no-one wanted them...
a few still are around and patrol boats and airsea rescue launchs, in Shoreham, and on the medway with sheds on top as houseboats...no engines though, a shame for a beautiful shaped boat... this one is still up and running though... ![]() http://www.mtb102.com/ I think this is owned by a fella who has spent millions restoring this and some other historic boats...will find a link in a minute... Me...I would love a ww2 BYMS....my grandfather had a flottila of them during the war, but I would love to make a cruising home out of one... That french diver fella Jasque Cousteau had one for a while...nice proper boat they are... Dreaming though...might have to be a decommisioned trawler instead... Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!
click here for the SE Events Index/links Thread...see all the reviews and whats coming up soon! Looks like I'm in trouble with the Mrs's again... She asked me what I'd most like to do to her body... Apparently "Identify it" is not the correct answer! MAKE IT or BREAK IT! TEAMXTREME4X4 ![]()
Re: 42-litre Packard-engined Bentley 1.500BHPJust don't do what that other bloke did and try using a car satnav for navigation. As I recall he ended up circling that there island of yours until he ran out of fuel

Re: 42-litre Packard-engined Bentley 1.500BHPwe do get em down ere... A couple of years ago the boat below ran aground on the beach just down the bottom here, after getting lost and having engine trouble (the new owner hit a bridge on the medway earlier in the day ripping off the aft radar mast!) He ran it aground on the steepest part of the beach and sprung the hull planking, then when the lifeboat towed it off next tide it sank, even with 2 pumps running on board, so they beached it again... It then rode out several more days and tides, which the water 1/2 way up the wheel house windows, and another failed salvage attempt, before a salvage crew arrived with a tug and recovered it...rumour has it that it was then scrapped but I am not sure of that... Was a lovely boat though... Lets not even start about the yanks parking the montgomery on a sand bank off minster full of ammo and sinking it!!!
