I think im gonna miss the electric hubs on our mazda pickup when we sell it,. they lock automatically when you engage 4x4 and stay locked until you flick the switch to disengage them, brilliant things they are.
Its the wifes until it breaks down.

Dunno how mch room there is under the bonnet of The Frontera, but a good way of adding an intercooler is to get one of a 3.1 Trooper Top mounted jobby. Will just bolt straight on if you grab the mounts at the same time. Also you can pinch the bonnet scoop and use it on your Frontera for the airflow. I could be wrong and it might not fit under the hood though :D, but it was a possibility I was toying with if I got a Frontera 2.8. I have a feeling the 3.0 Trooper turbo might fit as well and is a higher output than the 2.8 Frontera/3.1 Trooper (same turbo) mill.

The 2.8tdi Frontera is front inter cooled, many feel its more efficient front mounted as the cold air slams it.
There is the argument that it can get clogged in mud at the front but in over 5 years Ive had the rad clogged a few time but the inter-cooler never seems to suffer.
A top mounted cooler will fit with a pod :wink:

I remember something about Isuzu saying that 68cm is the optimal length for the intercooler pipe to inlet, dunno how true that is :?

I'm used to turbo'd applications & in my experience with top mounts, they suffer from heat soak & FMIC do provide better cooling. I have a FMIC kit from my RX7 in the garage & it has a 90mm core!! so i'll probably try & mount that, ish :shock:
The 3.0 trooper turbos are good for 160ps (i think) & need slight adjustment to fit. I'll see what nick the new fronty's in first, it might be fine & i'm told its in fantastic condition, so I will have to wait and see.

Not to replace the Trooper ... but before the Trooper when I was looking to replace my old Cav with a 4x4.

The thing with the 2.8 is its a cool running engine and to be honest doesn't get hot enough to counter any airflow coming in from the scoop. However there are arguments that a FMIC will allow the radiator to warm up more so the engine runs warmer making for better heating in the winter. I have ripped out the condensor that sits in front of my coolant rad and cleared all the mud away. Its running really cold on the guage, but still getting hot air out of the heaters, and the bonnet doesn't defrost in the morning when sat idle. I would say that the TMIC is frigid when driving so doing its best. Swings and ound abouts really. I would of thought the TMIC would be simpler to install than trying to route hoses to the front unless you had another donor vehicle ... oh and the bonnet scoops look pretty snazzy ;)

Nope front doesnt cause any probs to the rad at all, trust me :lol:

All the space for a front mounted cooler is there on any Fronty so all thats need are two hoses, even the 20l have an oil cooler mounted in the same place.

I've always stopped to change out of 4wd down to 2wd I didnt know it could be done while still moving. Mine pops out of 4wd if it goes on tarmac :oops: so I'm careful not to use it on tarmac now, but its really good on the snow in 4wd Ive used it lots recently.

Tried changing from 2wd to 4wd ( after stopping first to put ot onto 4wd to lock the hubs) while moving (clutch in) and it works fine...I'm really pleased it can be done as its very useful to be able to do this.
