SWB 'B' Diesel Economy

Postby f8rdy on Sun Dec 19, 2010 11:39 am

I dont mean to be boring.... but..... fuel economy.

The time has come for me to sell my WRX impreza as the 25mpg is killing me as i do 30miles a day to work and back so i'm looking for something a bit more sensible. I really enjoyed my SWB 2.8 Mu and like the elevated position although it wasnt the best on the motorways which is where i spend most of my time. I'm now considering something a bit newer that would be a bit tighter than the old Mu, something comfy for the motorway run to work, and something diesel. Does anyone run a SWB on motorway daily? How is it? and most importantly, what sort of mpg figures do you all get from different diesels on motorways.

I'm looking at SWB B's, maybe a 2.2 RS DTi but quite open to the possibility of others if theyre more economical!!

Thanks :)

Hi,my old 2.3 did 35 mpg solo round town more on a long run. I was really happy with it, although it smoked a bit and was a bit underpowered. My 2.5 does about 30mpg round town, more on a long run. I once got 596 miles out of a very full tank (80 litre tank but I don't think I used 80 litres run down as close I dared to completely empty). This was to from Whitstable to Herefordshire and back (with two trips between Monmouth and Hereford and some runs out to Holme Lacy from Hereford) and it was nearly all motorway or main road driving sticking to 50mph and oh it was so dull, but I was interested to squeeze as many miles out of it as possible.
Both my fronteras are lwb's.
Hope this helps

With the 2.2DTI you are looking realistically at around 32 to 35mpg.

I recently decided to do a economy run in mine and managed to get 39mpg out of it on a 200 mile run, Mine is a 1993 2.3Diesel its very comfy and holds the roads really well when you do push it considering it weighs the best part of 2 tons.
The best for economy does seem to be the 2.3 diesel but its not the most modern of cars, I really like that about it anyone can fix it, its not all controled by computers and there cheap to buy. But its all down to what you want the 2.3 is not a fast car but it gets there eventually :D
