Re: 4x4 Snow Ice Mud Escaper Tyre Traction TracksThese look interesting, thanks drift...they could join the shackles and straps, ropes, shovel, wellies, blanket, thick waterproof hi viz coat(found in a bin at the steel stockholders and washed ) and winch which are living in the back of my 2.5 at the moment.Just need a ground anchor now.
Its such a great reassuring vehicle to come back to.
Re: 4x4 Snow Ice Mud Escaper Tyre Traction TracksThey look a bit flimsy for me,and a bit thin
Re: 4x4 Snow Ice Mud Escaper Tyre Traction TracksSo do my waffle boards, but the worked
You could be right, they could fall apart but maybe it could generate some ideas Ste

Re: 4x4 Snow Ice Mud Escaper Tyre Traction TracksThey look like they could come in handy. And for less than £20 delivered, can't be bad.

Re: 4x4 Snow Ice Mud Escaper Tyre Traction Tracksgood idea
Re: 4x4 Snow Ice Mud Escaper Tyre Traction Tracksim tempted, they look like they could come in in the bad weather, but i think if i spend any more money on the fronty at the moment then ill end up sleeping in there. lol
maybe after Christmas
Re: 4x4 Snow Ice Mud Escaper Tyre Traction TracksPersonally for an ordinary car I think they would be ok on flat ground. 4x4's on lumpy off roading ground ... errm I doubt it. The hinges would be the first thing to go on uneven ground .... or they may have a pin right through and more likely to bend and therefore your handy foldable waffle boards would effectively become a twisted version of what you have already. Just an opinion

Re: 4x4 Snow Ice Mud Escaper Tyre Traction TracksNow, a material that could be linked together to form the same idea, fold-able for storage but strong enough for occasional use in mud or snow with strong links and panels made of a composite material.
It would need traction on the rear as well as the top as it would need to retain grip with the ground and tyre. Ideas? Ste

Re: 4x4 Snow Ice Mud Escaper Tyre Traction Tracksthats the same as these http://www.autosock.co.uk/
I looked at them when i had my transit, but i sold it and bought a fronty in the end.
Re: 4x4 Snow Ice Mud Escaper Tyre Traction TracksAlways confused with snow socks. How do you get the bottom bit on without a jack (that would sink into the snow)

Re: 4x4 Snow Ice Mud Escaper Tyre Traction TracksSurely if you can pull forward a bit you have enough grip to warrant not needing it

Re: 4x4 Snow Ice Mud Escaper Tyre Traction TracksI saw these up at Moel Famur a few years ago on a car, I knew I had a piccy
They are fine for keeping traction, but the point is what do you use to get you out once your stuck, hence the track matt things, plus the socks would be rubbish in mud, so any ideas to improve the traction mats? Ste

Re: 4x4 Snow Ice Mud Escaper Tyre Traction TracksMetal plate with little flaps accross the width about 1-2" deep depending on terrain the can only open 90 degrees. Put it on the mud and jam it under the wheel. Go to pull forward and the wheel drags its under slightly forcing the flaps to open until they hit the 90 degree where the several paddles cannot move against the mud therefore the truck has a new non-muddy surface to ride over. Give the board a clean and away you go. Just remember to not have holes in the board for the mud to push through, and a texture for the tyres to grip on.
