We made the trip up North yesterday - the car was actually 100km further than we were expecting and actually just into the Reindeer hearding area.

This blue thing followed us home



So far it seems OK, we made it home with no problems. I have to say it was very nice to drive. One question I'd like to ask though, what do these 2,2DTi's sound like? I have a friend with a car that has a similar motor and he said that they are fairly noisy, particularly at tickover. That's how I'd describe this one, so based on the assumption that it's probably normal we went ahead with the deal. There weren't any immediate signs of any problems (that I noticed) anyway.

Welcome and congratulations on getting a fronty mate especially a DTI I have to say mine is quite noisy as well so unless it's excessive or knocking etc I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I'll probably be on again in a short while asking about starter motor problems - or then maybe it's just that it was -16 this morning, although that's not really particularly cold (I don't like winter!)

Yeah, the battery's ok (good enough for the time being, anyway).

SWMBO came in this morning and said that the battery was flat, I tried, there was nothing (didn't hear any click from the solenoid even, but then I wasn't listening for it and the bonnet was shut). Then on the next attempt it turned over perfectly and started straight away.

Good to know the DTi's are noisy. This morning I thought it sounded much better than I remembered, but of course the oil was cold.
A friend who owns another diesel ecotec is on his way over now for a listen...

Think most Diesel engines sound noisy I know my old car I used to have was a Renault sounded more like a tractor than a car
