Good morning folks
Firstly what a fantastic friendly site, anyway i know you have answered this question a million times but just wanted to hear it from the horses mouth so to speak ,my budget is around 2k ,is the diesel 2.2 the best buy? swb or lbw?one of the most common problems i keep seeing posted is the 4wd engage problem,im a very competent person with half a decent knowledge of cars, how easy is it cure this problem and what to look for before i buy, absolutely love em to bits and just want to get my own frontier, many thanks, mick

lwb swb depends what you want it for. the swb has better turn circle ,lighter an better offroad. has three doors an roof come apart for summer fun and only seats four . Lwb longer heavier larger has 5 doors seats five still ok off road .

All personal choice as said depends on what you want to do with it!!! If towing i would go for the LWB but for off-roading/greenlaning i would have the Shorty!!!!

Cough.... having owned both I prefer the room and sure footedness of the LWB, its less likely to get cross axled, I do green laning as opposed to pay and play days so the longer body is not an issue beaching and theat only ever happened once before I lifted it and it had side steps on at a pay and play site.

On the road I found the swb a bit scittish on corners, but it was still fun to drive, its all swings and roundabouts good and bad with each.

Worth a look here

For that budget you could have a 2.2 Dti, 2.2 petrol or 3.2V6. Wouldn't touch a V6 without gas personally, and the 2.2's seem a bit unreliable (based on posts on the forum ). The 4WD issue is vac pipes 99 times out of a 100, so is a very easy cheap fix for even the most inexperienced DIY'er.

The clincher for me was that the SWB is only a four seater, and unfortunately that would mean one of the kids wouldn't be able to come out with us.

Thank you very much guys for your posts i;ve seen a couple of swb down near me in kent and seem ok but i have three babs and would like to take them along, making the lwb a more practical buy at the same time i used to off road a 74 range rover and rebuilt a 70's series 2 landy galvanised chassis upwards (4k later) and wouldn't go off road no more .Is the 2.2 diesel ok?

2.2DTI is a good lump, dont let it run out of fuel and keep it serviced and it should be fine, quite powerful for its size.
