afternoon all, just been mooching the cars on the trader and i fancy a newer frontera, and with x-mas coming thought i would treat myself to a new banger... i fancy a deisel as ive never had one and it must be a lwb, coiler 96 to 98 model, ive read the 2.8 is best but these are few and far between, so which would be the best from the 2.3 and 2.5 model for me to maintain myself on a small second car budget, which is most reliable of the two is there anthing i should look out for on buying either model, sorry to be aukward ive never had a deisel car and know very little about them but fancy doing a bit of an off-road project and it would be good to mess with a coiler instead of a leafy lol..

The 2.3 is a very basic and simple engine, essentually the same as the 2.4 petrol, also its very good on diesel i get 35mpg from mine, but i think they stopped using them about 1995/6 so you wont really get a late one, They smoke a bit but thats part of the fun, you can see where you have been , In case you cant tell I love mine , I have had a 2.0ltr sport a 2.5 diesel and the 2.3 diesel, And i pefer the 2.3 best of the lot

hi folks thanks for the replys folks the later 2.2 i beleive is 16v and im very old school i struggle working with these, and i thought these were B-series only ive had a later model 2.2 petrol the clocks drove me nuts... its got to be an A-series as i have loads of spares, if the 2.5 is the later model guess thats the best option, and if a novice like me can mess thats even better ill bare in mind the turbo/pump oiling before turning off etc.. ive look for a 2.8 but they never come up guess people that have them hang onto them, any deisel model will be better on fuel than my 2.4 petrol and my heavy foot, guess ive got to keep mooching to the right car come along, are parts a problem with the 2.3? and can you get coil spring model?, or is it like mine a leafy? thank again guys for the info

Are you looking for a SWB or a LWB? Reckon the 2.8 LWB is the easier to get hold of. That said, there is this 2.8 SWB on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 500wt_1156
