driving down a hill today my rear claiper decided to go pop

needless to say i pooh myself. nursed it to the mrs's dads and took the wheel off to find the pad had come off its guide got wedged between the disc and the dust guard and the caliper had been mashed by the disc.

clamped the hose and took the caliper and pads off and crawled home and will be replacing the caliper in the morning

Thats not good news mate...maybe lucky that it did it when it did and not on the motorway at 70plus!

Sounds like you have it all in hand though fella...

yeah seems like one thing after another at the minute, first the water pump (at least it wasnt the head gasket as suspected), now this whats next. at least its not overheating any more

I needed to change pads anyway but could of done without the expenditure

Had the same happen to me just before the last weekender. Lucky for me I was only doing crawling speed, but it does give you a scare.

The joy of having an old car is that your always spending money on them as 1 thing breaks after another.
The only difference between buying an old car and a new one, is a new one cost you money in depreciation, an old one costs you in cash. Realistically, your old car should still cost less to run though.
Just had to buy a new heater for mine. £50 + at least a whole day to remove the dash, fit, and put all the dashboard back.

yeah i was slowing from 60 to a stop and i felt it pop. its always good being able to sort it yourself, saves you 100s in most cases

its quite scary when you think that it could have happened when i needed it in an emergency considering it was me, the missus and the kids in the car, luckily im quite an early braker

Same thing happened to mine a couple of months ago. Ended up replacing all rear brake components (calipers, carrier, discs, pads, drums and handbrake cables).

bet that cost you a pretty penny
