Not bought one yet advice needed please.

Hi guys,
Great forum Well we have decided to buy a Frontera sport.We have been looking around at different models.We prefer the "square lines" of the A series but would like a later one with the revised dash.We have seen pics of a 1998 Transglobe and like the look of it.Could someone fill me in on the specs on the transglobe please This one has 3 spoke alloys but I have seen some with different Alloys which should it have as standard.

This is the place you need to ask anything fronty. There are guys on here that will answer some even the most technical of questions..... not me however I'm new too

Anyway I think the Transglobe, the Niagara and the sport are all one in the same pretty much. I know that you can get more technical help if needed.

Right the 3 spokes are what should be on there like my Niagara.
I'm going to give you what seem like negative points but they are realistic non the less and I think that it helps you make an informed choice. I have had mine for a month now and love it so I'm trying to give you a none bias opinion. Right....
- You get 4 seats in total and bugger all boot space when the rear ones are down (if that bothers you?)
- Fuel gauge is crazy! it works on a baffle so you go round a right hand bend and your half empty and visa versa with the left handers. they do have big tanks mind so £15 will see you just out of the red.
- Fuel economy isn't great but it isn't the worst. I am currently doing mileage tests on mine with acetone in the tank etc to see what's the best I can get per gallon. So far it's looking at 21 - 25mpg.
-They need looking after (as with any vehicle) for example did you know there are 5 grease nipples attached underneath to the Universal joints / prop shafts that need doing every 3000 / 5000 miles... not a hard job but main.
-Check the alarm system if it has one as they tend to play silly bugger on some guys on here mine (touch wood) is sound
-They can be a rattly over the bumpy stuff. Silly little things like the door pins being 3mm smaller than the surround so anti squeak tape comes in handy for those sort of little niggles.

And the rest is usual mechanical stuff that comes with buying a new vehicle.
Do the HPI,
Check for any rot,
Check the electrics,
Take it for a test drive,
Make sure it selects 4WD high and Lo but NEVER NEVER NEVER drive it in 4WD on tarmac.
And ask if it's ever had the head gasket done and when was the Cam belt done?

Hi Folks. Well with a bias oppinion you cant go wrong with an "A" Series Shorty. Im on my second one and would'nt swap him for the world. The new face lift ones are ok but as Mr Tom said they are prone to dash problems but can be sorted. The older "A" Series have'nt got that problem. there easy to work on so you will get plenty of help from this forum. Happy motoring and dont forget to put piccies on members rides so we can all see your new addition to your family.

Well guys thanks for all your advice.I know I said I was after an A series Sport..well.. we have actually bought a 2001 B series Sport RS.Viewed it today agreed a price and went to pick it up tonight It needs a good clean inside and out we took it out for a wee trip to the supermarket taking it on a longer drive tomorrow afternoon
We have never had a 3 door car before so it was a bit of a shock for my teenage daughter having to climb in the back but by the time we drove back she said it was comfy in the back
