mot updates for 2011

Just got a leter from vosa outlining changes to the mot test due to come in from December next year , these changes include airbag lamps , engine management lamp , electric steering lamps these warning lamps on will constitute a fail , headlamp aim adjusters if fitted must work , hid bulbs fitted to a not type approved headlamp also a fail , all electrical wiring must be secure and not exposed or chafing , battery must be secure and here's a good one , illegal engine chipping !!! , these items are being brought in to keep us in line with european legislation , they are still working on the finer points and how to positively check for the tuning side of things but it will come into force , just another way of the goverment to push us all into small brand new cars to prop up there ailing car industry ! Roll on the revolution

You are right in the sense that its just getting rediculous.

Also tbh the things all make sense though, though im curious how the electrical wiring must be secure and not exposed is gona affect lightbars

I'm interested in the HID lights bit, actually.
Hopefully lightbars ought not to be a problem as long as everythings neatly taped & tied, not flapping in the breeze.

When exactly in 2011 do these regs come in though??

you should see the ones that they want to bring in for motorcycles . Thay are talking about things like if is not factory approved accesories than it is a fail.

Greg, simple enough to swap em out for regular halogens mate. 5 minutes with a screwdriver to pop the headlamps out for wiggle room, there is no wiring issues.

I can see a lot of people just spending half an hour or so before MOT time swapping aftermarket stuff for OE, and back again afterwards if it causes problems.

They have also changed the ruling for sorn.
It used to be if your car was on your drive, you were ok as the car was not on the public highway.
Now, if your drive has no gates, you will get 3 points and a fine.
My friends workmate was done on monday.
They are just taking the pee now eh?

Been finking Keith....havent they changed it that if you havent declared Sorn that they can clamp the vehicle on your drive if its untaxed???
That would make more sense, if your drives gated then I guess they are trespassing and cant do it...
Cant find any info that Sorned cars need to be on a gated drive...car dealerships would be screwed if that was the case surely??

I'll try and find out what happened for sure.
My mate said that his workmate was told that the new ruling states that if your drive has no gates, anyone can walk past the car and get hurt.
It seems to be yet another con for more revenue from the motorist.
It is a bit redic, but he did get charged, I know that for sure.
But i'll get the full details and put it up mate.
