Hi All.Got a car booked in for a mot retest this friday the problem i have is that the road tax expires the day before im just wondering what the ruling is on driving the car on the public road.I know if its just going in for a mot and its booked in and you drive straight to the mot test centre thats ok dut its the expired road tax that concerns me the most.

I believe the law is such that you can drive a car to and from a pre-arranged mot without mot of tax...

pretty much what others have said, aslong as its insured and booked its ok BUT.....after its got MOT you cant drive to the post office technically ya kinda meant to walk there, walk back to garage and put the tax in

Agreed, you can drive it too and from the testing station without tax as long as the vehicle is insured.

All the above are correct.
If you think about it, you cant get road tax without an MOT.

Also the test station must be within 25 miles and (I know you already have) the test must be pre-booked and station have your reg and time of arrival ie no just turning up. If it fails you can leave it to be repaired or take it to another place of repair or home (unless the vehicle is unsafe/unroadworthy). If for example you have a bald tyre and get stopped you will be in trouble.

Thank you everyone for the clarification.I had to replace both the track rod ends it was tested on the latest mot equipment which now only takes 45 mins to do the test.i think it actually shakes the wheels to test for any play.
