Been offered a Diesel a series as a non runner

Hi Guys,

A friend of mine who knows I've got a fronty has clocked an a series LWB which has been a non runner for a while that a friend of his has (complicated lol).

Anyway he has offered it to me for bugger all and I was wondering about getting it and trying to recommision the old truck. I know it's a 94 and a diesel but nothing else at the mo. It doesn't start alledgedly but if you pop a battery on the lights etc come on. I'm guessing the diesel system needs bleeding at least. I gather the headlights have a bit of water in but from what he can see the body ain''t too bad. It was laid up as it got a bit flooded I think??

Is there anything else I need to look for or is it a case of pull the best bits off and weigh the rest in??

I'm thinking of either making it a proper mud toy or getting it running and letting another friend in the village have it as she is after a 4x4 for winter??

Did he try and start it after it was flooded? Engine may have hydrauliced (spelling?)

But for free if you broke it for spares you be daft not too.

If it's been in a flood it's best to check if it's drawn water into the engine, if it has, your probably better off stripping the good bits and and weighing in the rest.
If the engine 's O.K. and turns over without issue it's probably worth draining out the old fuel, sticking some new in and wack on a new fuel filter and see where you go from there mate

If it's up for anything less than £150 you'll know you can always get your money back when weighing it in if you cant get it going....

Drain and change all the fluids and filters but double flush the oil, at that age it will be a 2.3 and they are quite robust engines

Will take a battery with me and see if it turns over.

As you say for what I'm getting it for then it is worth weighing it in anyway.

Well been and had a look and bodywise it seems ok ish.

It was coming to the end of it's mot about 4 years ago and so the guy parked it up. Unfortunately when we had the bad fllods up here his field was under water and so the car was flooded. Therefore the interior is toast as it reeks of damp etc. Dunno what it will have doen to the floorpan. The alloys are the pepperpot style and need a refurb but the tyres are ok ish (apart from been sitting).

It's a bit farther gone than I hoped but there might be some bits on it people can use? It's done 124k btw.

I tried to jump start it but the lights came on but nothing else. Might be that it has an immobiliser or something.

If anyone fancies some bits or the whole car for spares then let me know and I'll get the number for you.

For what I was going to use it for or do with it I can probably pick up a runner for not that much more.
