Is there a way to make these more fuel efficient? 20mpg is not my idea of fun. Not interested in LPG and I cant strip out the interior to make it lighter...Can the fuel pressure be lowered or anything like that? If not, I'm probably gonna get rid so if anyone is interested drop me a line.

Not that i know off. Just adopt a very light right foot. Although 20mpg does seem a little low.

that seems about right my old one would get a bit more on a run but less if only on local runs

20MPG is about right. You can make them more fuel friendly with the usual suspects tyre pressure being a major factor. For a real diffrence you can have the ECU remapped and increase the MPG to about 32-35 MPG and the diffrence in power in difficult to spot really. You just have to bear in mind that driving a 2 tonne truck with an engine that big that kicks out that much BHP is gonna be damn dear.
Top tip if your getting rid wait another month when the price of all 4x4 s go up because of the weather.

I've found that the V6 responds well to a decent set of plugs , like the Bosch Super 4's (4 electrodes instead of the usual 1) and a performance in box filter like the Pipercross or K&N.
Makes a bit of differance to the performance but does improve the fuel economy as well as the super 4's provide a greater burn than the standard plugs and the filter allows the engine to breath easier

Its a LWB. I had a kn filter on it but got rid 'cause it sounded terrible. Remap the ecu? Who does that? Tyre pressures - do they need to go higher as I run them at about 30psi but saying that its got daft off road tyres on which wont help mpg at all. They will have to go...

To be clear what tyre size are you running? The V6 was available with 2 diffrent factory fitted trye sizes for some strange reason and as seen are your running on mud tyres theres a good chance they are not an original size.

Tyres are 245 70 16 I think without looking, I'm gonna pump them up tomorrow to 35 psi to see what its like. That ecu remap sounds too good - how come the factory never did it...
i also get a whiff of fuel at the back of the car after a run but theres no leaks anywhere. Any ideas on that?

Try 35psi and work down until your happy, on that size tyre it may feel harsh, I run 35psi on road but with 265/75/16 tyres any less they feel sloppy (maybe the bigger side wall?) off road/ laning I will go down to 20 or 25psi depending on the terrain, (low in snow/sand)

Factory cars are set for EU emission bands and fuel economy, its all a play off to get the car in a lower band to beat tax laws and the like.

20-MPG, if this is the combined average as calculated by the onboard trip computer then that’s fairly good.
your driving style is the best way to reduce emissions and improve your MPG for any car, and costs nothing to implement.
If you ever get an opportunity to drive an eco simulator, its fun, and can help improve your technique.
