swb bits fit lwb;sHi all.I feel a bit akward as havent been on here for ages and been away on holiday. I wanted to ask if the short wheel base 2.2 petrol models have the same diffs, brakes gearboxes etc as the 2.3 and 2.5 diesel lwbs ?
The reason for asking is that I have been made aware of one on my doorstep for not too much but with a broken gearbox. My question is it worth getting for spares can I use all the mechanical parts as spare for my lwb 2.3 and 2.5 diesels? The bonnet and doors and mirrors will fit my 2,5 are the right colour Thanks
Re: swb bits fit lwb;sThe suspension set up and engines will be no good to mix between 2.3 and 2.2 the models, will need to check on the gearbox but edging towards no off the top of my head.
Axles are also different between leafer and coilers. The 2.2 axles will be fine if ratios match your 2.5, brakes and drive shafts will be the same as will bonnet and front doors, bash plates front prop and electricals should be similar too. Ste

Re: swb bits fit lwb;sthe 2.3 matches up with the 2.4 for almost everything except the head, suspension will be anything before 95.
2.2 will only match up with the 2.3 for parts as long as it is pre 95, gearbox, only the 2.3 and 2.4 are interchangeable flying solo, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Re: swb bits fit lwb;sI would check what car its is Julian...as I am sure they didnt make a 2.2 A series Swb...I think all the petrol A series sports were 2.0i....
I think 2.2's came in on a B series sport, in which case not much will fit yours... I might be wrong but thats what I thought... Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!

Re: swb bits fit lwb;s2.2 petrol SWB didnt start until the B series. All A series SWB petrols are 2.0!
The following bits from the 2.2 will fit the 2.5: Brakes Gearbox should fit as same designation, unsure about clutch though. Interior Hubs and bearings Suspension Fuel tank and guard Most dash bits will be different unless the 2.2 is a facelift model. Diff ratios are different. 2.2 is 4.88, 2.5 is 4.30 Switches, gearsticks etc 2.3 doesnt have many compatible parts from the 2.2. Fuel tank and guard Possibly the gearbox but not sure about the clutch Interior and thats about it Switches, gearsticks etc Last edited by Sir-Doris on Thu Sep 02, 2010 1:27 am, edited 1 time in total.

Re: swb bits fit lwb;sWith regard to clutch`s the 2.3 & 2.5 were both DMF the 2.2 petrol was SMF so that will be a no no

Re: swb bits fit lwb;sNow I am really confused....
I have never seen a 2.2i swb A series fronty mate....and I am an anorak for looking at them The 2.2i was available in the lwb A series coiler... But as far as I am aware the A series sports only came as both varients of 2.0i, 2.8td, 2.5tds...no V6 (sadly), no 2.2, 2.3td or 2.4 Checked parkers guide...and they dont list a A series 2.2i sport http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Summary.aspx?model=973 The earliest 2.2 swb they list is from 20 Oct 1998 -31 Oct 2001....but checking the rest of the stats for it makes it a B... Andy stop messing with my head....I want a 2.2 swb A series now Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!

Re: swb bits fit lwb;sAs above, deffo no A series 2.2 petrol.
Easy enough conversion though. Got me thinking now!
Re: swb bits fit lwb;sThanks very much for all the info is ever I am impressed with all this knowledge. If anyone wants to know about blacksmithing I could help there!
It has the same dash as my 2.5, the wings are different and the rear light clusters look different as well it dosent seem to have an orange bit for the indicators.. I didn't get to see it again today but may be having another look tommorow and can get the reg (which didnt occur to me to do before)
Re: swb bits fit lwb;sA series sports dont have indicators up top as they are in the rear bumpers Julian...
Wings should be fatter than yours... Where did you get the info that it was a 2.2 from? I suspect its a 2.0i... Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!

Re: swb bits fit lwb;sI would drop a 2.8 or 3.1 in a shorty if I was going to that much trouble, plus you can get a 3.1 engine for a couple of hundred quid
