Used to go to the Royal Show there every year when I lived in the Midlands...my grandad was on security there....
Always remember the tractor pulling....noise was fab...half a dozen Merlins screaming their goolies out strapped to a tractor chassis...awesome!

Dont think they do the royal show any more, seem to remember my grandad saying a while back....

Great vids mate, i must admit ive had the odd discovery and rangerover but ive never looked down my nose at anyone on these off road do"s. I think everyones in it for the experience. I was once had my 4.6 rangey extracted from a mud hole by a lada niva, i have too much fun to be a badge snob

great vids, lol my dad was watching the vids aswell as i left laptop on (he has a disco and is a fully paid up member of the green oval brigade and takes the pee out of my frontera all the time) he was even saying how good it was, to land rovers,

Come on guys lets ease up on the landy bashing....these guys share a common hobbie with us....

V6Power as a relative newbie on here we welcome your enthusiam and its great that you are enjoying your truck, getting it muddy and sharing it with us,

but lets get real...

Frontys are brill fun and great for the money and a bit different....but a tricked up 90 or disco with better approach/departure, articulation, gearing and availability of mods is gonna come up trumps when it comes to any form of extreme offroading...
Driven well a fronty can do well, and get better with some mods...but Green Ovals aint as bad as everyone makes out in this thread...yes they do break a fair amount (well my v8 90 does), but most Landys have spent a lot more of their life being worked off road than our fronties that generally have never seen mud before we get our mits on them...
Landys are pretty awesome machines that are very very capable when modded up, such that when we get really stuck they may be one of the few trucks that would be able to climb out of the ruts behind us and be able to get into position to rescue us...
In the main the landy owners are a great bunch of guys who share this same great hobby, granted there are a few arses out there who will look down their noses at anything that didnt cost £10k+ to build and doesnt wear a green oval, but they are certainly in the minority and even then their attitude to us is no worse than has been displayed by US in this thread!

Every 4x4 has its limitations and advantages and there is odd situations where a fronty will out perform a landy, whether it be that a fronty with its lower roofline can take a better line as it can squeeze under a tree branch that the landys cant, or that our extra ground clearance due to IFS might mean we dont dig a diff in the ground or bend steering linkages, or simply that the lighter weight and pretty good power to weight ratio mean we can get across some things without sinking so much.....
....but believe me the scenarios where a coil sprung Landy will out perform are countless by comparison.

Granted the guys at the show might have been surprised to see a frontera going round their offroad course, I would have been if I was there, after all is was a LANDROVER show...

You did well V6POWER getting round the course without muddies and its great that you are having fun with your truck, and maybe made a few people think that maybe fronteras are not just a grocery getter, but come on Foggers pretending that our Frontys have no limitations is maybe a bit short sighted and a definite recipe for getting really stuck somewhere really bad!!!
Understanding a vehicles limitations is what makes a good offroad driver, irrespective of vehicle type and it makes as much difference to not getting stuck as throwing thousands at it, within reason...

All I am saying really is have fun with your truck, but lets not slag off other 4x4 owners, we all share this great hobby and without the landrover guys we wont have half as many places to go play, and they have some great ideas on their machines that with a bit of thought and modification could be made to work on our trucks...but more than anything there is some great guys out there who have landys!!!

firstly well done for getting round eventually on road tyres, but as gregster says we are all in it together , i have just flogged my friontera but prior to that i have owned landies and pajeros all were different but good in there own way for me a tricked up discovery ticks all the boxes very very comfortable and will go just about anywhere with little if no mods.
i love this hobby and dont care what i drive just as long as the community as whole sticks together and stops the loony bobble hats from taking all our lanes

I'm just a bit jealous of the availability of mod parts for the landy, to be honest. But I guessing that some of our mods have their origins from the ovals. As Mad Mechanic mentioned each model/make have their strengths and weaknesses, it's just that we happen to be running fronteras so by default we are biased towards our own.

(I'm just waiting for the day when we find a Porsche Cayanne (sp) trying to tow a BMW X5 off a greenlane (or vicea versa)

I do, mainly because i couldn't find a 7 seater frontera at the right price.

Incidently i'm about to make a few of the local 4x4 club laugh and probably get myself exiled from LR peoples...

Just ordered a sticker for the Disco.
