Driving on the Beach?

Are there any laws/rules against this?

Obviously if there's signage to say don't do it then you can't do it.. but if there's easy access to a beach (i.e. a track down or similar) are you allowed to drive down on to the beach?

Can't find anything that says you can't and I've found at least one forum (l200 owners) where people have suggested beaches people can drive on to.

Obviously I'm referring to Scotland too - not interested in Englisherness beaches
