Insurance write offI have been told by my insurance that my wagon is a write off and they are cancelling my insurance and mot. When i told them that i was keeping it they said that it has to be inspected by the dvla along with the new mot. The mot is not a problem it's just the other one i'm not sure off considering that it is only where the rear door has a slight bend where the bus hit the spair wheel.(i have been using the car for the last 9 weeks since the accident)

Re: Insurance write offSounds like they've listed it as a Cat "C" so you'll need the new MOT and then a VIC check.
The insurance company will ask for your V5 back before they pay out and as for the MOT, they can't cancel it but VOSA will invalidate it as soon as they receive the V5 and paperwork from your insurance company. VIC checks are very simple, book your test, takes less than an hour at your local VOSA depot then they will issue you with a new V5. VIC checks currently cost £41. Have a look here for more info http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/motoring/bu ... dg_4022107 Hope that's of some help
Re: Insurance write offThanks for that. Thats a great help

Re: Insurance write offMine was wrote off the beginning of the year. I phoned DVLA and they said that it was a Cat D and all that was needed was a VIC test if i ever sold it. I suppose Cat C is slightley different. The MOT still stood and they did'nt require the logbook back.
Good luck with the repairs mate as mine cost me £1 that was for 4 bolts to re-secure the towbar. Comments on Betsy here please!!! viewtopic.php?f=115&t=56282

Re: Insurance write offthis may be of some help regarding Cat C / D descriptions
http://www.carpages.co.uk/news/car-insu ... -09-08.asp from reading that it appears that the category a vehicle is put into is down to the accessor / insurance company. personally I would take the "buy back" option and either break it or put it back on the road (assuming that you are allowed to break it)..I think that you would only have to get the VIC done if you were to put it back on the road.. The greatest lesson in life is to know that even us idiots are right sometimes
