Re: astra 1.7 dti ecoAll lights draining when trying to start could indicate a sticky starter motor. You could try tapping the starter with a hammer or
putting the car in gear and pushing back and forth slightly incase the starter is jammed on the flywheel... Could also be lose battery connections or bad engine earth strap..... Ramsgate, Kent

Re: astra 1.7 dti ecoAs the lights don't go dim, i would say check the wee wire at the solenoid connection. Check it is tight and clean.
If in doubt, put a wire on the solenoid at this connector and touch the battery positive. If it turns, the starter is ok. Regards, Keith.

Re: astra 1.7 dti ecowell ive tested it with a multi meter and theres power getting to the solenoid so looks like the started is dead, ordered one off ebay but the biggest problem is fitting it,got it on ramps and been under to have a look and i cant even feel the two bolts that hold it in,got a bad feeling that i will have to drop the engine to get at it

Re: astra 1.7 dti ecook got the starter off and yes its bust, got a second hand one on its way, after stripping the car down i noticed 3 pins in the ecu broke which explains why it keeps going into limp mode, how do go about replacing the ecu or is there anywhere that can repair it,ive opened it up to see if i can swap the pins with unused pins but theres no way it can be done, well not by me anyway
