Re: Anyone got a transmission jack?If you access to welding equipement and some scrap steel, it isnt that difficult to fabricate an alternative top plate for your trolley jack....
Remove the top plate from your jack and copy the way it attaches to the jack lifting mech, then weld some steel work to the new top plate so you make a cradle that the tranny will sit into nicer... The other way to do your tranny swap is to remove the gear levers (really easy to do and refit) and then use a small block and tackle through the gearstick hole in the shell, suspended from a beam resting on the door tops (with the windows wound right down and some padding on top)... This would make for a nice controlled lift...a large rachet will do if a block n tackle isnt available, but controled lowering with a rachet strap is gonna be more difficult to accomplish... Re: Anyone got a transmission jack? That will be great so long as you can get the car bhigh enough to clear it
Re: Anyone got a transmission jack?Hiya
Did my gearbox recently too. Car was up on 4 Ramps from Halfords and we used a 3t Jack (which lifts higher up then a Standard 2t Jack) We supported the box underneath the cross member - with two friends holding it level. Bit a fiddle job to get it back in but it shouldn't take to long. It's not so much the weight itself more the fact that it's not evenly spread i.e. having the Transfer Box on one side makes it wanting to tip over - hence some mates to hold it steady. PS: make sure it's in neutral when re-fitting, as you may have to twist the rearshaft a bit in order to align the front with the clutch/engine entry. Hope this helps.
