jeep brakes anyone know?

Postby diders on Wed May 05, 2010 9:56 am

hi folks, need some help with a brake fault on my dads jeep cherokee. the brake pedle is solid when not running, but when you start the engine you can feel the asistance from the servo but the pedle just goes slowly to the floor. there are no leeks or air in the system and you can feel some resistance there but he has said it felt like the abs was on when he drove it so not having much experiance with abs wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction please. many thanks

What year is it :?: is it diesel or petrol :?: if it's a diesel that'll be right about the pedal travel as the vaccum pump pulls the pedal down  the abs could be an abs sector ring fault or even a sensor  the sector rings have a habbit of getting rust under them then splitting, causing the abs to operate at slow speeds
It might be slow but i can go anywhere!

andy i do have the haynes manual if you want a borrow if you need it it doesn't cover the diesal engine (its a usa copy) but i should imagine the brake systems should all be covered

the year is a 98 and its a 2.5 diesel, its recently had 2 ball joints fitted on the near side and the sensor was removed so that the hub could be removed to get access to the ball joints, i have checked that every thing is back in the right place as far as i know, it has recently had 2 new break pipes on the front to. this fault occured on the way back from the test centre after passing its mot so hopefully nothing to serious. phill il borrow that manual if you dont mind, cheers. and thank for any advice given folks.

Take the sensor out clean it and clean the axle case where it fits could be the sensor is sitting to far away from the rotor  as for the brakes blast some more fluid through it sounds like it might have some air in it
