coke versus rust remover.

At the weekend I tidied the garage and collected spares together in one place. A lot were small and rusty.

I dunked a bunch in some Hammerite rust remover, the rest in coke, just an experiment to see which shifts mud and rust better.

Cheap vinegar would do the same at half the price of that drink.

I once saw a fitter crack a wagons wheel nuts at a service station after pouring coke over them as they where too tight

One of the rally cars we once ran (the Metro I think) had the washer bottle filled up with coke and the washer jet pipes aimed into the bell housing.

We referred to it as the "coke injection mod" - but it cured the slipping clutch problem for the duration of the event.

Coke didnt win.

Expected it too, it did de-grease and de-dirt most of it, but wouldnt touch the built up rust.

The Hamerite stuff has shifted even the built up onthe brake calipers.

Maybe a good preliminary dip in Coke before the rust remover. Was an interesting play though, not tempted to try the coke after either... lost its fizz.
