Anyone tried Steel Seal cylinder head sealer stuff??

Postby Honeysucklewhore on Wed Mar 17, 2010 11:51 pm

As a last resort (can you tell I'm desperate to hang onto Bertie?!) I am considering trying some of this stuff: http://www.steelseal.co.uk/index.asp which apparently permanently seals blown head gaskets, warped heads and cracked engine blocks and heads.

Anyone got any experience of this stuff? Good or bad? I've heard some good reports, but equally some pants ones.

About £30 a bottle - wondering if it's worth a go, since Bertie is only showing signs of HG/cylinder head failure and hasn't actually gone 'phut' yet.

I am currently getting around in a Daihatsu Terios (I know, I know...I was desperate! ) and would love to get back into a Fronty soon!

several members who had head gasket failure symptoms recently added k seal [ which boasts similiar repairing properties as steel seal ] to the cooling system but after a short period the problems returned so id say that those types of products are really only temporary get you home things.

:D Hi used something very similar a few years ago on the heat exchanger that warped on my 2.5 v6 Vectra with brilliant results The sealant I used was Silicon in a thick suspension fluid The secret to success was to follow the instructions to the letter[very similar proceedure].Went from using 2 pints/day on a 30 mile round trip to using nothing ever again .Cost about £20 in the late 90's  So I suspose this could work with improved technology and all that For £30 nothing ventured nothing gained as I said earlier just follow the instructions to the letter.Hope this helps John
I have KLEPTOMANIA and when it gets really bad I have to take something !

If its a small leak then it may well cure it but I doubt it will seal a larger break.
I also drink Port and I'm not ashamed to say it!
