Today i finally finished the gearbox in my 2.8 Well as i have not driven the truck since buying it as it needed a gearbox and rear axle it was a very exciting day for me as i drove it round the block I could not got far as the mot is just out of date. I still have a few bits that need sorting so any advice would be very appreciated........ 1, The truck has always struggled to start from cold and need to pump the throttle to get it to start but once its been running for 2 Min's it will start sweet as a nut just off the key I have some new plugs to fit but i was thinking air in the system 2, The gearbox i have fitted is fine but the gear stick has the wobbles can i just change the bushes Next the dreaded mot

Give it a good wash underneath before the MOT and mention that you did so he knows you care.
If you need something done quickly just ask a busy woman then get the f"k out of her way.

Steve, it will be the glow plugs There is a little plastic bobble at the bottom of the gear stick, cost about 20p from VX Sir Doris had a few and kindly gave me a one, it took a little movement out of the gear stick but there is a bigger plastic bush in there I think could benefit from being changed as it look rather worn, easy to do and you cant brake anything checking it out. Take these bolts out and it lifts out, Oh and well done

It's the one that that bugs me with my 2.8 the starting - it always starts just not nice - been like it since i had it just over a year was better in summer it's had full service inc belt, changed corroded fuel pipes, glow plugs etc and seemed better for a few days after a bottle of redex but then back to normal, some times i don't use it for weeks but always starts (now i've said it)

I had starting problems with my 2.8 a while back, eventually I discovered that the cambelt was one tooth out. I realigned everything and it started perfectly every time after that.
