Re: Buying a fronteraI'm not trying to be unhelpful or a prat but have you searched the Diesel section for things to look out for?
The same question has been asked quite a few times with plenty of comprehensive replies Astra 1.9 CDTI SRi slightly tickled
Re: Buying a fronteraWotcha and welcome to fog...
Have a gander in the cars for sale section of the forum, there is often something in there.. Where abouts in the SE are you?? Laters Gregster Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!
click here for the SE Events Index/links Thread...see all the reviews and whats coming up soon! Looks like I'm in trouble with the Mrs's again... She asked me what I'd most like to do to her body... Apparently "Identify it" is not the correct answer! MAKE IT or BREAK IT! TEAMXTREME4X4 ![]()
Re: Buying a fronteraUsual stuff first really, does all electrics work, any problems on the test drive like noisy transmission, knocks, clunks, how about steering, brake in a straight line. Look in the engine bay for leaks, feel the top hose of the radiator when engine is warm and running, (if its hard not good). Also white deposits inside oil filler could mean head gasket. Have a look at the underneath, cv boots intact, rust problems (not usual on a frontera unlike an LR). Again look for more leaks. Have a look at the sills, sometimes problems with rust here. Check rear diff pan, can go porous and leak or just leak and require re-sealing (easy job and there is a how to on the forum). Feel for play in the prop shaft. Condition of the tyres. Any excessive smoke on start up? Have a general read of how to operate the 4x4 system and make sure that works and your happy with how to use it. And if you do finsd one and have any questions, just ask, we are a friendly bunch on here. Sorry its all a bit jumbled but hope it helps anyway.
Someone mention laning? Just tell me when and where!
Re: Buying a fronteraHi and welcome to fog.Make sure the glow plugs have been chaned recently. They are known for snapping and that means cylinder head off job.Me and my dad found out the hard way.And the diesel pumps are know for failure luckily my dads had a replacement from lookers just before he bought it.Apart from that the car has been really good not had anyother problems with it.Cheers Adrian
