Clutch Biting Point

Postby vargas on Wed Dec 30, 2009 7:08 pm

Hi all, looking to buy my first fronty and have read a for sale thread (SWB 1995) but my concern is that the seller says that the biting point is low but doesnt slip. Is this a concern for me?

Kev.

So as the clutch wears the biting point on the pedal will get closer to the floor?

Just had the clutch replaced on mine and the bite point is quite low. It should be higher up as the clutch wears. Its possible it has a cracked bulkhead or a leaky master/slave cylinder or it might just need bleeding.

Check the clutch fluid level, if low it may be due to a leak, if it is brown and gunky looking it may be past the end of its useful life and will need replacing.

Check the area the pedal bolts to for splits/cracks. Fix is to weld.

If master cylinder is leaking the area where the pushrod comes through the bulkhead inside the car may have fluid weeping out. Repair kits are available cheaply from VX.
Dont think slave cylinder repair kits are available any more but a good used part will work just as well.
I also drink Port and I'm not ashamed to say it!
