Why is it people enjoy slagging main dealers? if they knew what was wrong with their car why take it there in the first place i run a main Vx dealer in sussex and laugh at people who slate us but do not really know what their talking about, (i am not saying you dont know what your talking about) if they have charged you for all that work and you knew it was an air bubble go back and complain ask for your old parts and cal Vx customer care they will look into your case as for GM tech mine are bloody brilliant

Kinda with Alex on this one. My nearest VX place has great service and they do bend over backwards to help where possible. As a general rule they get most things done in a timely fashion but having said that I have had a couple of issues with them with regards to waiting on parts although that was probably more to do with them being hard to source then anything else.

Main dealers are at the end of the day just people, and mechanics are not infallible no matter where they work.

the piont i was trying to make was that if some thing is not working it does not always mean it is at fault.it seems to be common sence to just check every thing connected with the part that seems to be going wrong rather than jumping in with both feet.the only problem i have had with this dealership is the time waiting for spare parts apart from that i am vaery happy with them.but this was a nineteen year old lad doesnt no any about cars and i think personly they took the ** * *.

You are correct diagnosis is everything i spent in excess of 7000.00 yes seven thousand pounds on training and diagnostic equipment last year 08 and pride ourself on first time fix/diagnosis my techs knowlege is fantastic but as said they are human and can make mistakes but if we diagnosed a fault on a customers car/van and it was wrong i could not and would not charge them for that repair/mistake how could any dealer justify that, i guess it must be a case of ignorance by both parties my opinion is its wrong and if dealers do that they should be hung drawn and quartered On the topic of roadside diagnosis if we get a report that comes in with a breakdown we always check the fault first and never dive in headfirst and have found this actually saves people money so if any of you boys/girls need any advise/info give me a (pm) and where possible i will try and help

Cheers All Andy

My two penneth and personal experience, all too often faults are missed diagnosed and new parts fitted, this goes on until the fault is fixed through spare part surgery or the technician calls us for assistance, often with out removing the new part that didn't fix it.

An example, vehicle breaks down, engine just stopped working, technican attends the vehicle, plugs in his diagnostic computer. This shows him fault codes that say that all six unit pumps have failed, arranges recovery to the workshop, orders six new pumps and fits them, but it still won't start. Many hours later after much head scratching 5 gallon of diesel was put in the tank, it started and run a treat. The reason the engine stopped was because it ran out of fuel, the tank sender was faulty. Dealer claimed for the unit pumps and sender plus labour, needless to say this didn't add up so the claim was rejected and investigated.

I could go on quoting issues for ever, but I won't. Oh, for the record, I work for a premium brand Car and Truck manufacturer, in the truck technical department where I advise/assist dealer technicans with technical issues and faults they are unable to solve for themselves, on occassion this requires on site visits.

Rant over

Regards

Stuart

Of course, if gearbox was removed, clutch would require bleeding afterwards......
Later level Corsa appears to suffer with gear linkage failures.....about £90......but they aren't readily availble, we just had to wait 4 weeks for one, its not the dealers at fault, there were orders for 350 before Vauxhall released them for sale.

being a Vauxhall Master tech myself and now service/parts manager i see this sort of complaint every day, people come in and tell us what the fault is (99% are wrong) the latest was this morning.
"you fixed my car last week and now the water pumps leaking!"

The car was in for a missfire last week, faulty coil.....

And the Technicians have no say in hourly rate/parts pricing. You dont say how long they had the car for.....at the moment we can't take any more work for 10 days, and its the same most places down here @ the moment, so if you got the car back inside a week, I'd say you got good service. Who diagnosed an air bubble??

Hi All
I have been reading these bits about GM dealers and why GM dealers can't understand why they are being slated.. The bit i hate about GM is how they come up with there vastly hikes parts prices. It is also very annoying when i search for certain parts i am told they are only avalable from Main dealers... especially body panels... Most other car manufacturer's used to sell off the rights to there panel presses after 10 yrs or so but yet GM don't or won't do the same as other do hence the reason Pattern panels are not avaiable for the Frontera's..This was confirmed by my local bodyshop.

I needed a new bonnet for my Frontera and was quoted £400.00 + vat which seems very excessive when you consider what Ford charge for there bonnets such as for the mondeo which also has a similar sized bonnet i may add.

GM do need to wake up and start pricing parts to there true value and not what they think we should be paying for them.

Thats my only gripe with main dealers but i do understand parts prices are dictated by GM themselves and not the main dealers.

I dont think vauxhall ever made frontera panels, they came in from isuzu.

I can assure you vauxhall parts are generally lower priced than ford, particularly service parts.

I priced a tailgate gas lift strut for a Toyota clica today....£86 plus vat, can only get genuine part, a door mirror for same vehicle (its J reg) was over £200, again only genuine.

Aftermarket parts maufacturers will not produce parts if the're only going to sell in small numbers.

And the IBC build plant is still there although no where as big as it used to be most of the vans are now done there but if gm get there way i am sure it will get even smaller, In reply to an ealier post Dealers have no say when Vauxhall stop making parts or what prices are set we are not the most exspensive supplier's for run of the mill stuff however some core parts are silly money and these are the parts that are dealer supply only in general we make 20% mark up on most parts
