Re: 2.8 mitsubishi shogunDepends what you call thirsty, compared to a Fronty 2.8 then yes they are but for a diesel 4x4 not too bad.
2.5's had overheating and head gasket issues but the 2.8's were loads better Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one
Re: 2.8 mitsubishi shogunmy son has the 2.8 exceed it has all the bells and whistle plus some
it had the head gasket done before he got it as they were a problem on the early ones he gets 25mpg would get more if he never had such a heavy right foot i would have one if i never had the fronty
Re: 2.8 mitsubishi shoguni also have a 2.8lwb exceed and she is great goes anywhere, and has (i will say this quitely ) had to rescue the sport a couple of times she has aggressive mud tyres on and with centre diff engaged she will go anywhere i use her for shooting and towing but when it comes to going off roading i love my 2.ltr fronty swb however i am now looking to replace it for a 2.8 swb fronty as i want extra power
Re: 2.8 mitsubishi shogunI seem to recall somthing from my Pajero driving days about the diesels having problems with glow plugs.
From memory (a bit vague as mine was a V6) they had a habit of the tip of the glowplug dropping off into the cylinder, and making a bit of a mess as it bounced around If you need more info, have a look on the Pajero Owners Club (www.pocuk.com) forum, it is a long while since I was on there, but they were a friendly bunch !
Re: 2.8 mitsubishi shogunHave heard of the glowplug problem happening on various vehicles, more down to cheap plugs being fitted to save a few ££ I should think. Might give one ago.

Re: 2.8 mitsubishi shogunThink they have a centre diff aswell to enable 4wd on the road. As for lwb fronty, not enough room, hence trying to move the 2.4 on.
