B series Petrol to Diesel conversion?

Good afternoon gents / and ladies

New boy would like some advice or guidence, i have a reasonable amount of DIY mechanical knowledge, i wide aray of normally useless tools and a garage just large enough to swing a domestic cat. What i would like to know is if anyone had converted a series B Fronty from Petrol to Diesel? what exactly is required to complete? how long and how difficult? I ask as i am having alot trouble finding a 2000 ish DTI RS Sport in arden-esque Blue with full styling pack (or not for that matter) with 60k ish on the clock for my petit budget of £2600. i have seen petrol ones with seized engine etc but i am in need of diesel. i would really appreciate any help here or Should anyone know of such a vehicle could you also let me know?

Must admit this was something I have thought about in the past....getting a late tidy fronty with a snaffled engine, and sticking a different engine it...

It would be worth doing but I would go a different route...

Why stick an engine/gearbox in it that may have issues and that is gizmo controlled so will be a nightmare to wire up,
when you could put something in it that is old skool proven, has bags of grunt and is ultra reliable and simples to get running...

I would go for a nissan patrol 3.3t or 3.3 diesel engine and box, or landcruiser 4 litre N/A or 4.2td engine and box...

My 4 litre landcruiser used to return 30mpg on a run if I was nice to it...so would give more in a fronty I should think...

...and the limit to what your car could pull, would all depend on how well VX welded in the chassis rear crossmember!!!


Just a different approach to the same end...

Why spend loads of time and effort making a car thats already been made, when you could create a beast for probably less effort!!!

not something i'd thought of to be honest but an idea worth looking at. So would i be right in thinking it would involve adding / changing engine and Gearbox mounts, loom, pipework, fuel tank? i think my original idea was simplified in my own mind because as a muppet i would assume the mounts all ABS, P/S and possibly some existing loom to windows, mirrors, Heater etc may work? this may be an idea too far for my little brain!

I think you will find all the engine bay loom/ ecu's etc will all be totally different from the petrol to 2.2dti...mounts will probably be different and the gearbox probably wont bolt up either....

Old skool jap 6pots are simples to wire up...
probably 10 wires max and thats including temp gauges, oil pressure switch etc...they never ran ecu's on the non turbo's so no worries there, and although mods may be required for engine mounts and gearbox crossmember these are simplish fabrication jobs and would probably be required to some degree on the vx diesel transplant..

I still reckon it would be certainly no more hassle, and possibly less hassle shoving a big6 in the old girl, sooner than the vx 4 banger...and it will be awesome!
