mot fail questions

hi all, so the molliemobile has failed the mot off side front shocker has worn rubber bush/both sides front brake hoses bulging under pressure/ plus a dodgy brake light and a binding rear brake!
i reckon i'll need new rear shoes, but can i get the bush for the shocker? as im thinking the shockers should be replaced in pairs, so wheres cheapest for standard shocks??? also same with the front flexi hoses, wheres cheapest to source these from please?

Try Ebay first mate, thats normally my first port of call. With regard to flexi hoses, when I got some for the Missus' Ka, steel braided ones were not much dearer than the standard fo a full set. Have a look anyway

I haven't found anywhere cheaper than Milners for standard shocks, £30+vat and postage, never had to buy flexi pipe so can't help there.

Any motor factors should be able to supply flexi hoses and millner should do the shock bushes.

cheers y'all !! good idea furio! i'll look into the braided! bit of a buggar like as ive changed all the rigid pipes over the last 3 years, and the old flexi ones look like they'll not like being undone , £30 aint a bad price there on the shocks woodwizzard, but good one ste! milners for shocker bushes now im thinking hmmm are the bushes made from "ptfe" cos if so i'll make em on the lathe.... brake lights just a bad connection and ive gone thru 2 sets of front pads and a disk skim but never touched the rear brakes

2.5k more miles to go then ive done once round the planet since putting the 2.8 engine in

Make sure you know what you are doing if you havent done brakes before mate.
When it is stripped, make sure you lubricate all the backplate slides so the shoes can move freely.
Also strip the adjusters and lubricate them too.
When rebuilt, adjust the shoes up correctly.
Make sure the pistons in the wheel cylinders move freely.

Keith I can assure you Kev knows his stuff he is an old hand, though he may complain about the old bit good advise though

Kev Im not sure of the compound they use on standard bushes but most after market bushes are polyurethane but I suppose any flexible hard wearing compound will do the job as they wont do a chemical analysis on them I hope

so i ring milners to ask about shock absorber bushes, to be told on the phone "i don't think we stock them"

he ste thanks for that link! very helpful guy, the bushes listed tho are for the rear! and he only had one full front shock in, but he was going to charge £40 on a pair which would have been good. anyway he decribed the bush as "bonded" in, which may be the case! its been a while since ive changed shocks.... mot fails only so its looking like a pair from milners at 60 bucks, but will they get here tomorrow ouch

time to ring the local scrap yard me thinks

The after market shocks are not bonded in on the bottom, but VX ones might be.

hmmmm, guess its new shockers then! no way can i get a pair off a scrapper in good enough nick to refit another lesson learnt! scrap yard has a top name though! "U-Pull-it"

hmmmm, my rear hubs wont come off! saturday i spent 2 hours tapping around them and they're well stuck but the front flexi pipes are now on and the new shocks should be here tomorrow.... and what a horrid days weather yesterday, 3 days under the car and 2 of them it holed it down

so rear hubs, ive never taken them off and ive had the car car 3 year, so lets assume you get 30k out of a set then it'll be around 5 years since they came off, any ideas/suggestions for hub removal please?

since you have give them a good whack with a lumpy then there is a hole at the centre of the hub stick a strong screwdriver in that hole and lever it as you tap it worked for me when i changed my rear pads matey
