how hot does yours run?

just wondering how hot the fronties are ment to run at on the temp gauge?
ive changed thermostat and coolant on mine, running around town, stays about half way, but on long journeys like motorways, it runs between 3/4s and just before the red. this is worrying me, is there anyway to cure this? or is this normal?

That sounds too high, mine ran that high so I changed the thermostat and radiator and now very rearly gets above the quarter mark.

Not wanting to worry you but the 2.8 doesnt like being to warm it can cause head gasket failure.

same here warms up too just before the quarter mark only really got hot when i was off roading and then only half way

Could be as simple as the cooling fins need cleaning,taking particular attention of the lower half

Also check your fan clutch.

This is going to sound strange,mine stays on cold all the time till it sits in traffic our off roading then it sit on half way our about the 60 mark and then the twin fans come on then it go back down to half way

Thanks for your help , was worried about it , an now iam really worried , iam off work tomorrow , so it looks like i know what iam doing ,
and drift , whats the fan clutch .

i think it the viscious fan it has a clutch in it


a quick test
If the fan assembly free-wheels without drag (the fan blades will revolve more than five turns when spun by hand), replace the fan drive. This spin test must be performed when the engine cool

Have you changed the right sensor? on the 2.8 its the one on the side of the block, same side as the turbo, just down from the top of the stat. Lots of people swap out the 2 on top ofn the stat, they are part of the quick warm up etc, but not guage.

It has just one wire on it, that could do with a clean up.

its worth dropping the stat out for a day and running without one at all.

Also there are two stats, one is 92° and the other 82° usually stamped on the thermostat itself.

There could be your problem, try that one before you start doing anyhting too involved.

you say you changed the stat recently, did you do that because she was running hot or has the problem started since then ? im thinking correct stat fitted ?
