Well, looks like the head has gone on the Fronty. Got exhaust gas in the header tank and water in the exhaust. Dont suppose anyone has a head going cheap as im absolutely brassic at the moment! I may also need some assistance fitting the new head if I do manage to aquire one. Is there anyone in the Oxfordshire area willing to offer their expertise for the price of a bacon butty and a crate of ale?

Should think skimming and crack test with a new head gasket and a set of new stretch bolts may do the trick this will save you the cost of another head think all relevent info [torque settings etc] can be found on this site. Hope this helps John
I have KLEPTOMANIA and when it gets really bad I have to take something !

I'm available most days if you need a hand doing the head. Just let me know. I don't have a huge range of experience, but know my way around the engine.
Is it the engine head you are after, or just the gaskets. The only reason I ask, is that a friend was in the scrappies just to the north of Banbury last week (out by Jaguar / Land Rover / Aston Martin if you know that area) and said there was 4 or 5 fronty's in there. So if you need any parts, I would be more than willing to take a drive up there and have a look for you.
Feel free to drop us PM anytime.

Also, forgot to add this bit, when the head went on our sport, we took it to a place at Chippy that skimmed it for us, cost about £26

May take it to get skimmed etc first. Just dont want to pay for that to find out the head has cracked. I thought that when the head gasket went you got oil in water/vice versa rather than exhaust gasses.
Headbanging, thanks muchly I will drop you a PM when I kow more.

Depends on whether the gasket has gone at an oil or water passage. get the head pressure tested and skimmed first, new gasket set and bolts etc available for under 100 quid, skimming and pressure testing prob around 50 quid (ish).
I also drink Port and I'm not ashamed to say it! Me Truck

I will go down the gasket route first then. there is an engineering company near me who will do a skim and pressure test for £30 and the motor factors is conveiniently next door! Once its all done and sorted i may look at investing in an LPG conversion as its costing me a fortune to run!
Thanks for all the advice guys, once again a great site to be a part of!

Just got a quote from my garage to do the head, water pump and timing belt and they want a minimum of £1000 So looks like im going to have to get rid, as with the missus being in hospital I have not got time to do it myself. Anyone know what it is worth as spares/repairs? 98 LWB few dents, loads of surface scratches from laning Thanks guys

thats a bit steep as to do a complete head strip and rebuild is only 8hrs that includes taking valves out and regrinding new seals so with head skim and parts i can't see it being much more than £600

£600 is still too much. I only paid £700 for the car. Really not worth it in my opinion
