bbc watchdog regarding dash fault?manifold crack

good morning everyone i need some information abot the problems that are most common to the b series frontera
1,manifold crack
2,dredded dash fault
3,seat belt warning light
as i'm a frontera b series owner i have come accross all three problems and after watching watchdog this week (regarding the dash fault in renalt senic and the result they got) from the show i wanted to see if we could achieve the same result so i need some information.
i need to know what fronteras these faults affected (year and engine size ) also any letters that were sent out to vauxhall asking for the responce why these faults occured and if they will take responsabilty for them and pay for the repairs. the cost of the items are very expensive a new dash is £400 quid plus and new manifold 250 plus gaskets new nuts and fitting ect
i need a quick responce on this by sunday 11 oct so can you all add a note if you have sufford these problems . dont forget the make model and year of manufacture many thanks grieg

That's the problem with this country - everyone's out to blame someone else for problems and screw them for money.

I have an Astra MK2 Exclusive Cabriolet - it's a limited edition model and like all MK2's, the rust monster is trying to dig its paws in. Would it be acceptable for me to complain to Vauxhall and ask them why they saw fit to release a car that in 16 years time would suffer from rust? I think I should write to them and ask for some kind of compensation or indeed, get them to foot the bill from the bodyshop to repair it all.

The article you are referring to was in relation to NEW cars having these faults and that Renault were AWARE of them. It is entirely unreasonable to expect Vauxhall to pay for problems/faults with your car that isn't even made anymore, let alone waaayy out of warranty.

Had the dash problem replaced it with second hand one all ok BUT only a matter of time before this does the same . Also had the seat belt warning light on usually a couple of times a month a quick jiggle with the wiring sorts it until the next time Had no problems with the manifold [there is a thick steel clamp about a foot below the first joint bolted to the bellhousing that I keep tightening once a month] BUT the exhaust has snapped twice once just after the cat and second time just entering the main silencer box [under drivers side] THe Frontera is a 1998 SWB 2.2 16V RS PETROL reg S 510**** with 67K on the clock [genuine mots for proof and clocks had 753 miles difference when changed]

i thought vauxhall sorted the dash problem out on the later B models

I have the cracked manifold problem, 95' A series X22XE engine.

Seemed to be a common occurrence from 95' onwards.

I seem to recall a post a year or 2 back regarding watchdog and the cracked manifolds. Dont know what came of it.

if there was 1 fault that b series are reknown for other than the 3 faults youve listed greigwwr is the head gasket on the 2.2i petrol. You can accept a failure of that sort on a high mileage & a well abused engine but with this model that certainly dosent seem to be the case, as for me i brought a low mileage vehicle with good service history but i still had to have mine changed & ive read of plenty of other similiar failures on well maintained frontys not to mention the other vx models that use the same engine.
i have noticed that a great many of new members to this site who own a 2.2i theyre 1st posts are most likely to concern head gasket failure, & i believe that if vx realised that they had sold vehicles with substandard gaskets [& im damn sure that they must of done ] then any model sold before the factory modifications should of been recalled for free rectifications.

even in the last 6 months renault have been in touch with my girlfriends youngest son for a recall check on the bonnet catch on his 1997 clio, this problem i believe was only accepted by renault after a similiar campaign by watchdog all be it as more of a safety issue than a reliability one but at the end of the day a design fault is a design fault ! ! !

couldnt this thread be moved to the general discussion section so as to maybe get more attention ?

they might of sorted out the dash problems in the later models but they never recalled the ones that had the dogey dashes in and rust i can accept but for a car that has only done 60000 miles its a lot of doller to pay out for all of them .
and i dont know how to move this thread to genrall disscustions but thanks for all imputs so far

My 2000 x reg 2.2 Dti had the dash fault, and replaced with new from VX for £295 (parts only) at 89,000. New dash now has 29000 on it and is Ok so far. Had no probs with the fanimold (so far) but have had oil cooler replaced. Havent had seat belt warning but hte airbag warning light does come on occasionaly.
