nudge/bull bars

Postby fogman on Fri Oct 09, 2009 1:00 pm

im a bit confused as to which type i can or cant fit to my b series, as i understand it i cant buy an old steel a series type & get it fettled so it would fit, that would be my 1st choice cos i prefer look of the ones with the light protectors :( so im still looking for a second hand 1, my other option seems to be [too expensive so last & least as well lol ] an aftermarket stainless steel model, they seem to be 3"" tube & although they look as if they would do as much damage to a pedestrian in an accident as an a series type to me they are advertised to be fitted on much newer vehicles than mine

i took my mondeo for its mot this morning [ failed :( ] & asked the examiner about them but he seemed not to know too much as bullbars arent checked for the mot other than being checked for secure fitting & any sharp edges
WHY AINT I GOT AN ALL SINGING & ALL DANCING SIGNATURE LIKE BOXY & DRIFTY ?

i think that after 1997, if the vehicle wasnt manufactured with steel bullbars on then it is illegal to retro fit them :(

Realistically your choices are fitting a Vx soft Abar or an after market soft or hard bull/nudge bar,but the emphasis will be on you to prove conformity should there be any insurance claim, failure to do so will render your insurance invalid
Bull/nudge bars on B series need to be type approved & have a certificate of conformity (a copy can be obtained from any registered manufacturer),if your car is not factory fitted with one then you will need to inform your insurance company as it will be deemed a modification.
