Frontera's - Would you buy one again ?Hi
I'm a new member who joined to find out more about frontera's, mainly how you rate them, especially against other 4x4's I've just sold a Fourtrak which has been very reliable, its just a bit long in the tooth, and a few things are starting to go wrong. I'm looking to replace it with a Frontera Sport hopefully, but am a little concerned about reliability. A Frontera is top of the list, followed by Honda CR-V (Not sure about the styling and I'm not sure its got Low Range 4x4), and the freelander (unsure about the reliability of them also). If anyone can really recommend Frontera's, or offer any advice, especially compared to the other 4x4's on the list I'd love to hear about it. I've a budget of less than £1500, looking for a Late A or Early B series Frontera as a 2nd car, and therefore looking for repair/servicing costs to be as low as possible. Thanks for any feedback !
Re: Frontera's - Would you buy one again ?Honda has independent suspension front AND rear plus the exhaust is vulnerable at the back.
Freelander has no low box but may have a hill decent button and is a bit low to the ground. What are you after, petrol or diesel ? Ste

Re: Frontera's - Would you buy one again ?Hi and welcome along!
You are, of course, going to get a very biased opinion on this site, being the Owners Group and all. End of the day, it's going to come down to personal preference. Owning a Frontera can be a challenge. If they have been well looked after in life, they can be very reliable - however, I have had many problems with my car, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of taking it apart and putting it back together again. Parts are normally readily available, either from motor marts or the scrappies ... and modifications are normally cheap and relatively easy to do. It's all part of the fun, and without it I would not have made as many great friends as I have. They are capable, solidly built trucks that will keep you guessing a lot of the time, but will cost you as little or as much as you want to spend on them really. Hope that helps Jay

My past list of reprobates. 2.4LWB 2.2LWB 2.8LWB 2.8SWB I currently have a 3.2LWB and 2.8LWB. Between the 2.2 petrol and the 2.8 I made a fatal flaw of having an omega td. Was awful and soon came back to the party. The 3.2 has been with me 3 years+ the longest I have ever owned a car. Any questions? Fronty no.4, pimp mobile Treg 3.2 LWB lifted 2.5"
Fronty no.5 2.8 swb hd coils +2" 31"machos.

Re: Frontera's - Would you buy one again ?Hi and welcome to fog.I am on my 2nd 2.4 lwb frontera. And would deflanetly buy another one.My dad owns a w reg 2.2 dti frontera and loves it.
Re: Frontera's - Would you buy one again ?Hi Rich
Welcome to FOG! I would defiantly buy another fronty, the next one I would go for is ...... still the sports model (SWB) as I like the shape of them, and I don't need the space as a LWB would give, but it would be a Diesel one rather than a petrol one I think they are very capable 4x4 car, they defiantly get my vote Cheers BTW... whatever car you buy always comes with problems ...eventually
Re: Frontera's - Would you buy one again ?i would without doubt buy another frontera, yeah, like Roo says you are bound to have breakdowns and running issues with any other car.
i'm sticking with the frontera, though i must admit,i never liked it at first but bit by bit i started to like it,the reliability, and it's MOT first time passes did it for me,and now no-one could change my mind about getting any other vehicle than the fronty. But the biggest draw of the frontera now is: if i hadn't have got the frontera i wouldn't have even come accross the FOG website, and i certainly wouldn't of had such an excellent range of knowledge, (from the friendly and helpful team and members alike) at hand, and from which, the group is always ready and available to offer help and assisstance from Mods to Fixes, from Meets to I.T. and of course Questions and Answers. it's all here in one neat and tidy website,This is why i'd buy another frontera in a heartbeat.
Re: Frontera's - Would you buy one again ?I've had an older 2.0l, then got a car regretted it immediately
and I forget all about the problems'01 SWB 2.2L PETROL called Stanley Bean
If it's got Tyres or Testicles, it's gonna be trouble!!!
Re: Frontera's - Would you buy one again ?I have a 2.8 swb play thing and a 2.0 sport for the little lady. I would say the fuel economy is the main down side of the sport and I would not buy another for that reason. The 2.8 is far cheaper to run and I will buy another in a flash. But the engine choice aside they are under rated trucks and well worth the money.
Re: Frontera's - Would you buy one again ?erm thats a big yes, i would get another one, but would have to go up on engine size,
up to now i have had, 2.0 2.3 2.8 still got next would have to be a v6, flying solo, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Re: Frontera's - Would you buy one again ?I now own two- the 2.2 dti is the one to have . I have LWB versions with airconditioning. I get between 36 and 41 miles per gallon consistently , they have bags of room, I can get a bicycle inside without dissasembling it . Only things I regret are comparative lack of ground clearance and no central difflock and a tendency to fog up quickly in certain circumstances. Incredible value for money.

Re: Frontera's - Would you buy one again ?I am on my first swb 2.ol but have loved it since the day I test drove it. I have had alot of problems all due to previous owners, but have really enjoyed putting everything right. I get really good ecconomy from my sport which is above average for most,26-28 round town and 34 on a run. I would by another tomorrow if I needed to
