How Can I Increase My MPG please?

Instead of filling up the tank, carry two full 5ltr cans.
Run out of fuel, put in first can and set trip to zero. Drive until out of fuel and note mileage, then put in second can, then fill up @ garage...its cheaper that way.

We are training our drivers to use a funky light system on the buses to save fuel, it shows green when driving economically and red when driving uneconomically, drivers tend to subconsciously drive better too as it has show to reduce accidents.

My 2.0i sport fronterror was so bad on fuel with 33's cage, winch, softtop....

that I figured it couldnt be much worse with a V8 350cu.in. lump in it....

At least it would be bad on fuel, but go like stink and sound yummy...hence why its getting a v8 chevy lump

That it my theory anyway....I averaged a fantastic 15mpg...but luckily I found 160 gallons of contam fuel at work, so used to run 50/50 mix of contam (mainly petrol with about 10% diesel) and pump petrol...seeing as half of it was free it kinda meant I got 30mpg which was gooood!!!



Personally though... I dont really care about fuel consumption....


I consider it as £ per hour, as opposed to miles per gallon..


My reasoning...

I could drive something that is really eco that I hate...

or drive something "juicy" that I really like...

But when you consider that at 60mph for an hour, a eco car will do 1.5 gallons @ £8ish
a juicy car would do 3 gallons at £16...thats £8 an hour difference...

Now if I am going to hate an hour in the eco bucket, and will resent that hour spent, then I think spending £8 to actually enjoy that time is really good value.
Now if a couple of people in a car can enjoy that same experience for that hour, then thats kinda £4 each for an hours enjoyment.


Where else can you get an hours enjoyment for £4???


And there isnt enough hours in the day that can be made enjoyable with work and stuff...
....so turning an hour of misery into something you enjoy is worth every penny i think...

This is why is sold my Citroen Zx diesel that did 45 mpg and used my BMW E30 325i touring to travel to work every day...


Just another way of looking at the whole mpg thing......but from a Gregster perspective!!

( I would sooner GIVE UP SMOKING to save £5 a day so I could "waste" it on fuel....sooner than spend time driving in something I hated!!)

I experienced an increase in fuel consumption once and also a drop in performance and drift said check the brake calipers,This I did but in fact it wasnt the calipers they were fine it was a build up of rust on the frames and it was stopping the pads releasing so I ground the rust off and put the pads back in and it solved the problem.
With sir doris on the case I cant think yours is doing that, but to check you could jack each front wheel up and see if they move freely.
