Sunday 21st June - A Quiet Days Laning

Well... After the accident in Ireland I was a bit depressed, however after getting the old girl more or less shipshape again I really wanted to have a quiet laning session to get my spirits up. A quiet word was had with Cheekychick and a couple of others and a date was set.

Unfortunately a couple of them couldnt make it but Cheekychick and her neighbour Tracy did Along with Roo who decided she would ride along provided she didnt have to get up a crazy O'Clock. Fair dues tho she was up and about almost a full 5 mins before we were due to leave for the meeting point.

Meeting in Betwys Y Coed shortly after 10am we had the usual pre laning banter before heading towards Capel Curig. Several lanes within a 10 mile Radius of Betwys were explored, none too taxing although I think the old girl has some new scars from the overgrown gorse on the 1st lane.

We stopped at The Lost Village for some tea and biscuits (Well, sandwiches and rolls bought from the Spar but that doesnt really have the same ring to it now does it).

Since the group was consisted of 2 Frontera's, 3 women and 1 bloke frequent toilet stops were made. Sorry girls but when a fella has to go he has to go

The best bit was that our own darling Roo drove the old girl on most of the lanes leaving me to drive and navigate between them. Over the course of the day I think I only drove one complete lane and didnt mind being the gate opener for a goodly portion of the day. Over the course of the day her off-road driving skills improved considerably and involved some traversing of deep ruts, a few stepped climbs and a reasonably tricky descent down a steep, rocky and rather overgrown and narrow track.

Well done Roo, and in mine and Cheekychicks humble opinions she will be well capable of handling her own Frontera when she gets one

Although I had a rather long route planned out which covered some 90 miles on and off-road we stopped about halfway through after the "now technically non challenging but still a nice drive for the scenery" route to The Lost Lake by which point I was shattered after having a sleepless night. We left the lake after a few minutes and headed back down to the main road where we said out goodbyes and parted for the day.

Overall it was a nice and easy day which the 4 of us fully enjoyed. Roo hadnt been on a laning trip since November 2008 or so and Tracy hadnt been off road before at all and it was exactly what I needed to get back into the spirit of things.

I did take a few pics, probably about 10 in total and I think 5 or 6 of them were of 1 pheasant who was being particularly obstreperous by not looking at the camera. I think Roo and Cheekychick may have a few more.

A BIG Thanks To Doris,Cheeky Chick & Tracey really had a great day out! and driving was great fun, it was like learning to drive all over again, can't wait to get my own now
I couldn't believe it was November the last time I went out laining

Had a nice chilled day, many thanks to Sir-Doris for taking us out.

Harvey was his usual self, he makes me giggle how he sits down in the back of the car regardless of how much the car tips and wiggles about.

It was really interesting to see which lanes are right on my door step, was really pleased with the day. Like Phil said though, the lost lake is almost as good as the road to the village now, but it's still a nice drive.

Roo was definatly holding her own out there, and should do really well once she has her own fronty. I reckon Phil will stop driving at this point and be chauffered

Tracy had a good day, she was pleased that she didn't puke in the car, haha. She did take some pics and I will get them off her in the next day or so.

Providing you have a dry day in Wales then in my opinion you'd be hard pressed to find a better scenery than in Wales, but then I maybe bias as I do live here and think its beautiful
