Wheel Spacers

Postby MuddyD on Sat May 23, 2009 3:36 pm

are there any point to these ? I understand that fitting them will give the car a wider track/stance and make the wheels stick out more. Is there an advantage/disadvantage to these and are they advisable to fit these

hi
dont know if theres an advantage/disadvantage to these or if are they advisable.
but my tyres were catching on the chassis, so there a must for me. the wheels are from a pajero so dont know if vx wheels would have the same prob.

Wheels with a better offset are the better option as they will have the same effect without risking spacers.

Obviously a wider car is less likely to roll, Its a good idea to add about an inch in width for every inch you lift or the car would get unstable. Wider off set will also help sort some issues of rubbing, but will create some others as the wheels radius of movement will be bigger and colud now catch in the arch rather than the chassis.

cheers A friend thought they would as they are frontera wheels afterall, was just thinking of a wider more aggressive looking car with wheels sticking out a bit more and if it was really worth it. Think I'll just leave them for now then

anyone looking for a wider stance should be aware that , if your tyres are sticking out beyond your wheel arches you can be fined by the local boys in blue , this can also get you 3 points on your licence .

Hmmmm... Haven't we already had this discussion??

There must be loads of coil-sprung Fronty's running around on leaf-sprung alloys, with nary a problem from the boys in blue, or the MOT men. I know both my LWB and SWB have been MOT'd and pulled over by the police without any wheel related comments...

I wasn't trying to bring things round specifically leafer wheels on a coil sprung model. Just to point out that there are plenty of vehicles about with tyres that poke out a little from wheel arches.
Can't seem to find that particular thread now, but didn't the conclusion come up that it's only over an inch protuding that you'll have problems?? If so, a set of spacers fitted ought to be just fine...??
