Re: mot ?It should fail if the wheels are sticking out past the bodywork.
Easiest way to rectify this is to fit some plastic (or rubber) spats on each arch. Just a flat piece of plastic (or rubber) riveted to underside of the existing arches will do. If the wheels rub at any point on the arches, inner wings, shocks or arch liners (i.e. on full lock) the examiner should also fail the car.
Re: mot ?Mine stick out more I think and passed, my understanding is if you can see tyre tread while looking down from the top of the car it can fail, but its down to the tester really.
Though there is no mention of it here http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_410.htm Ste

Re: mot ?I've had a look around the VOSA guidlines and some of the Police forums on line and from what i've read i deduce the following.
The VOSA guidlines seems to be quite open to interpretation and if i interpret what they say correctly then the car should pass the MOT. However, if i was you i would ring my local VOSA testing station before you take the car for an MOT, at any garage, for clarification. Now, if by chance your car does pass the MOT the Police may interpret things slightly differently. The subject of wheels protruding from wheel arches has been discussed greatly between certain fellow officers and it looks like some would try to give you a fixed penalty ticket. Anyhew...my advice is ring VOSA. If they say it is ok then take the car for MOT. If the garage fail it...... give the Inspector the name of the person you spoke to at VOSA and watch him tremble.
Re: mot ?I have got the early A series alloys on my B swb and they stick out a good 1+1/2". I was a bit wooried about it passing the mot.
My tester said that you are allowed an inch and half protruding beyond the arches, any more and you need to extend the arch. They passed no problem ![]() ![]() SIZE DOES MATTER!! MEMBER 1728 1996 2.8 SWB called VIPER Members Ride section for VIPER Comments on VIPER here GET YOUR CARTOON CAR HERE

Re: mot ?I did pose the question re tyres to my MOT tester... and went on to say that it it failed on them I'd bring it back the next day with a different set of wheels on - it passed no problem.
When the BBB was at the garage for a few weeks when I changed the engine, an ex policeman popped in with a car for some work to be done and passed comment on the BBB (up on the ramp with no engine) regarding the tyres - I remembered that, hence my question to the MOT guy. Interesting comment about the 1 - 1½" though - not heard of that before. Lawrence

Re: mot ?I had early A wheels on before and it went thru the MOT no probs, AND that was with 30mm wheel spacers. Cant see you having any problems mate.
Re: mot ?And to add my voice to the general cry, I've had the early A-series alloys on both my LWB and SWB and they've gone through MOT juuuust fine
Admittedly, less of an issue on the SWB cos the arches flare out more anyways, but even so, you'll be fine... Jim... Ps; bobbins - any chance of a piccie or two of Nemesis, see how it's coming along?? Jim...
