I've been offered an LPG Frontera.... that has (apparantly) no petrol system
Re: LPGhello mate i am allmost 100 % sure you need to run the engine on fuel until it hits 40 c (sure some one will correct me in the science bit)
i can force my gas to kick in eaily but it judders alot and it strugle s to accelorate away. its some thing to do with the LPG is a liquid gas and it has to go through a vaporiser which has coolant pipes going to it to heat the gas up before it can go down the pipes to the inlet manifold. i have worked on emergancy standby generators which have been fitted with LPG but they have heaters perminantly on keeping the gas + coolant warm this way it can run on LPG only but you wont be able to do this with a car. when i was working for vauxhall we fitted split system s which looked like a standed fuel tank under the car but was only a 15 liter feul tanks and a 40 liter LPG tank. i would have a word with the guy as me proberly means it starts on petrol then kicks over to LPG when warm normaly after 2-3mile hope this helps mate paul
Re: LPGthats what i thought lol.
It's also the logistics that got me as well, say the system was installed 5 or 10 years ago, there were a lot less LPG stations about than there are now, to be 100% reliable on LPG would have been interesting.
Re: LPGHow do fork lift trucks work then. We have one at work thats L.P.G wich starts and runs fine. Is it a different system? I didn't realise that converted cars needed to start on petrol first. You learn somthing every day.

Re: LPGyou can run on lpg 100% the reason most lpg systems are programed to switch over is because petrol is better to start on and they recommend that the petrol system is run for a few seconds each start up as it prevent the petrol injectors gumming up, is the one youve been offered a basic single point or a multipoint injection system? or if youre really luck a sgi sequential system?
