snorkels which way round?is there a better way to have the snorkel? ie forwards or backwards?
mine points back over as pic. just wondering if there makes any differance. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: snorkels which way round? When its pointin backwards n u r drivin down the road it creates a kinda vortex around the end of the snorkle so the air doesnt get in a fast. When pointin forwards its effectivly a ram air system.

Re: snorkels which way round?so would there be any differance in how much petrol it users?
mine seems to run fine and dont seem to be greatly thirsty. so i suppose if it aint broke..... i think i'll leave it alone so i dont mess it up.
Re: snorkels which way round?Opinions vary on this, there is no definitive answer to that question, the single biggest group of road vehicles using snorkels are lorries.Look at the manufactures & their chosen direction of air intake, very few agree.
The second biggest would be agricultural, they mostly suck upwards 360 degrees around the stack (same as the OE green oval system).
Re: snorkels which way round?Never thought about it like that Bernie. Trucks have the raised air intake facing forward, sidewards n backwards dont they.

Re: snorkels which way round?Indeed they do Mark the latest idea on artic`s is to keep it short & draw air from the nuetral area directly behind the cab.
On naturally aspirated & turbo charged engines (petrol or diesel),the main consideration is to have a large enough surface area with a smooth path so the engine can draw as much fresh charge as it needs in any situation. The only vehicle that I had involvement with where the direction was critical,a Triumph based drag bike.Forward facing air intake was necessary to feed the supercharger.
Re: snorkels which way round?Having a swivel top gives the best of both. The biggest consideration for off roaders is dust and water, its ok having a snorkel but if you suck up one of those over enthusiastic water entering waves its pointless, facing it back helps prevent this. Same goes for dust, when we were on the plains last year some of the tracks were kicking up lots of dust so I faced it backwards. If I had to choose just one position I would face it back.
