3.5" lift on a B = £102 no way!!!!

Right let me get my head around this, to lift my SWB B +3.5", i'm going to use trooper hd coils (not +2"), that should give a 2" susp lift, and a 1.5" bodylift, so 2"+1.5" = 3.5" all that from Milners is £102 (£47 for coils £55 for bodylift), that can't be right can it? :shock: , the B is only going to be used for road work and towing, so a shock upgrade will be due but not necessary i'm thinking? most it will go over is a speed bump! :lol: (till i get a nice LWB B for towing duties ;)), thinking about a BJ flip (that's Ball joint not B*** J**), but should be able to get away with cranking the torsion bars up high enough without too much camber issues, shouldn't i? all this would be enough for a set of 31" on 8x15 black modulars (with -32mm offset iirc?) without clearance issues?, anyone help me confirm my thoughts? cheers lads.

and the best way is to do body lift first, then springs (passenger side first) then torsion bars, correct?

Those prices are plus vat and postage so will be a little bit more. Don't 31" fit a B as standard then?

Yes your right NO WAY is it £102, its nearer £125 Delivered next day. Got mine last week.

With the B you will have to point out that you need to have all nuts and bolts as the SWB is 8 pucks on nuts and bolts (acording to bobinsjob) as I was following his posts in the susspension forum. The LWB is 10 Pucks and only 2 were captive ant the others were nut & bolts, but I needed to use the smaller bolts on the rear 2 and needed to get longer captive bolts from Milner. Will try and do a write up of this as am still finishing off.

The lift was realtively easy, my main problems were the removal of the bumpers, but now they are off I can see how ot should have been done :butt:

Other problems are that the bumpers are mounted to both chassis and body so some fettling needs to be done there. Hopefully I have sorted out the fronts and the 2 spare pucks can be used to help sort out the rear.

As for the springs it looks like (again following the threads from crabman & pixelmonkey) that I can do the springs without a spring compressor, as long as I can lift it high enuf, but that is still to come.

Have also found I need some welding done on the back bumper box before it can all go back together.

If you dont change your rear shocks after lifting it you will be changing them very shortly anyway, they will over stretch and also collapse into themselves and wreck the internals of the shock, plus with longer stronger coils you need the shocks to cope with them.
Ideally change the front for some stiffer shocks to so as to even out the ride and handling.

thanks for the fitting tips, bumpers should pose too much of a problem, got a 180te turbo mig brand new i've never used sat in the garage, so might come in handy, also got a respectable set of laser coil spring clamps, from my "chav" coilover fitting days, and i'll pick the lot up on my way through to shepshed or measham BCA in the next week or two (go up there a couple of times a week) and as the front is a "working" vehicle, come 31/01/10 i'll get my vodka back too. Was thinking about getting some stainless nuts and bolts to go on the pucks unless they come with them, and was going to go through the truck and replace whatever i could with silicone hose this and stainless this and that (was thinking about contacting Paul Roose about making some tooling for fronty hoses ;)), will probably measure up for a set of 3" pucks too and pass em on to the nephew who's an apprentice tool maker :wink:

a full set of es9000's is only £160 though isn't it? will do the lift first as it's only sat on the drive and it will motivate me ( went up and got my new pin type tow ball today from towsure in Halesowen :)), then i'll do a set of shocks and a steering damper, what other options are there regarding shocks, Rancho etc?

Found this useful bit of info the other night on OME springs

Part #, Free Hight, # Coils, lbf/in spring rate, (application)

OME912, 420 mm, 10.8, 180-300 (medium load Trooper 92-02)
OME913, 390 mm, 9.3, 180-300 (medium Amigo/Rodeo 5door coil spring 98-02)
OME919, 430 mm, 10.8, 200-280 (heavy load Trooper 92-02)

bar diameter is same for each. 913 has lowest coil weight, 912 is + 0.8Kg and 919 is + 0.9Kg.

I verified the application guide is correct as it pertains to the OME912 and OME913 part numbers with a Rep at ARB-USA who cross checked for any updates.
I also cross checked in the Oct 2005 International Application guide and the specs are identical number for number, only the applications are listed as follows;

OME912 (medium load GM Frontera 95-98) and (medium Jackaroo/Monterey 92-2/2001)
OME913 (medium load GM Frontera 99+ 5 door)
OME919 (medium Jackaroo/Monterey 3/2001 - 04, Heavy load Jackaroo/Monterey 92-2/2001)

so i need 912's or 919's for my B then? or just use milner trooper HD springs and only get 2" instead of 3" and save £90 and put that towards some 31's and they'll give me 1" extra lift too, need to keep it under 2.00m total height for car parks! lol!

Suspension lifts, springs, shocks and tyres are probably one of the most regulary debated topics on here along with alarms and we still don't have reliable data on all the springs available and the effect they have on lifting a Frontera.

Was gonna take a tape measure to the Bala meet, do some measuring and produce a table of lift results v's spring type for future reference :idea:
Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one :-(

Standard Frontera A coils lift a B approx 2", HD coils will make the same lift, but be firmer. Trooper HD coils... should be even higher and stiffer.
Fronty no.4, pimp mobile Treg 3.2 LWB lifted 2.5"

Fronty no.5 2.8 swb hd coils +2" 31"machos.

Those are the ones I have got, still sat in the garage, but are planned for this weekend (if its dry). Will post hight and lift rates after.

Ok,

Finished work early tonight, so up for an early start to the springs.
Loosen the bottem bolt on both shocks, and the wheel nuts.
Jackup the car from the diff, axel stands under the axels, the further lift via 4" jack platform, axel stands now under the chaissis rails at full extension with 4" paltform as well, so all nice and high.

Remove the nut from bottom of the shocks, and slide off the left shock from the bolt. :lol:
Slide off right shock and find it hits the chassis mounting for the bar that goes behind the diff, (name unknown).
Try to undo the top bolt and no joy, so cant see how :twisted: to remove the shock bottom bit on the right hand side. :(

Also when trying to drop the axel to replace the left spring the bar above the axel fouls on the top of the tank thus reducing travel on that side. :butt:

So tomorrow I will try and get a spring compressor and try and compress the spring to get them out and repalce,

Unless any one else has any better ideas, Shocks are just over 2 years old and are es9000 so dont want to damage them during this procedure. :idea: :roll:

OK, Better day today.
Up early and off to the locaql motor factors for some coil compressors.

using these took a while to get the old springs out and to get the new springs back in, but all done by 2:30 so not too bad, plus lunch break :dance:

Before Springs & after lift the numbers were,

LF 34.5" RF 35" Need to tweek the torsion bolts here a bit
LR 36.5 RR 35.5

After the springs were done

LR 38" RR 37"

Thus acheiving a 1.5" lift via the springs. Think the diff between the LR & RR is that the tyre need more air as hight from the centre of the wheel to top of wheel arch is the same on both.
