SNOWJust about to take my son to school, tons of snow here! Can I use 4WD now????? Some of the roads will be gritted obviously but does that mean I have to keep reversing and chagning from 2WD to 4WD? Sorry I know its a dummy question but went out in the ice a few weeks back in 2WD and skidded all over the place as they dont grit the roads to the school only the road the school is on. I read a thread in the comments section and I can guess I am asking too many silly questions. I think I am starting to annoy some of you so I will take a break and maybe come back later. Off to school see you guys later!
Re: SNOWAs the Frontera is only a part-time 4wd, you should only use it where the ground is slippery - i.e. On ice in this weather. If you use 4wd on gritted road where there is no snow or ice, you will find that the front diff will suffer wind up very quickly, and you could cause some damage there.
Basically - if you are slipping, use 4wd, as soon as you are off the ice, back to 2wd. Hope that helps Jay

Re: SNOWYou dont have to keep unlocking the hubs, you can drive in 2wd with the hubs locked it wont damage anything as long as you are not in 4wd at the time.
For reference, you are not in 4 wheel drive if your hubs are locked, four wheel drive is only engaged when you put your little transfer lever into 4H or 4L and your yellow dash light should be on, this will engage auto hubs, but when you go back to 2 wheel drive with that lever the light will go out and you will be out of 4 wheel drive but hubs will still be locked until you reverse, keeping the hubs locked is ok, you are in preparation to use 4 wheel drive again it will not cause any damage just having the hubs locked, so when the conditions improve and you know you wont need 4 wheel drive much or again, you can reverse to unlock the hubs when it is safe to do so, you only need reverse a meter or two. This is for the A series . Hope this helps. Ste

Re: SNOWYes, all you have to do is stop, and move the small gear stick into 2 wheel drive and carry on as normal then reverse when its safe or when you get home.

Re: SNOWJust rescued a young lady and a baby in a Corsa who was stuck trying to get up a hill near where I live and her handbrake cable had snapped in the process !!!!
Thing that was more annoying, lady was distressed to say the least and not one other person offered to help out, just tried there best to get around her cos she was stopping the traffic. So many selfish people !!!! What has this world come to !!!!
